I love my new Prius v, great MPG and I was happy with almost everything until I took a moderate 3 hour road trip. Yikes the seats are soooooo uncomfortable. My body is slightly worn at 59 yrs of age but my friend riding with me was very uncomfortable too and she is 10 years younger!!! Man alive it was like sitting on concrete! And the longer you sit the more you feel the concave slope of the back!! Just not right. Constantly changing chair position trying to get comfortable. Toyota makes a great car but really? The seats made me feel 95 yrs on arrival.

Come on Toyota you can do better than that!! For the money you really should get a seat that is comfortable. I find this really unacceptable. It makes me want to trade it in already. In fact I am already seriously thinking about it. I hate the thought of putting an insert in all the chairs, I can not think of asking people to ride with me for any great length of time. Be sure you rent and take a LONG trip if you are considering buying a Prius v. I rented but did my regular driving for three days without problems before I bought. BUYER BEWARE. Test those seats for an extended ride. You may have to forgo the gas mileage to save your butt and back!!!

Like mileage YMMV, YCMV (Your Comfort May Vary).

We love the seats on our v Five. No more need for intermediate stretch-stop breaks.

I am 58, my car is a favorite of the 'church ladies' I drive to Memphis and Jackson for Dr. Appointments and Hospital visits. About 2 hours each way. They like not having to climb up in it.

I have no complaints with the seats in my GenII which are supposedly worse. Every human is different, but the seats are all the same. It would be nearly impossible to make a seat for all the permutations of the human body. It is hard enough to make seat that works on the average differences between male and female leg/torso proportions.

I put a lumbar support in mine. Works fine. My wife does not use it and has no problems.

I am just shy of 62 and have no problem with the seats in my 2010. I routinely make 4 hour trips to see kids and grandkids and find the seats quite comfortable.

    As said above, YMMV.

The seats are not concrete! No problem with mine - I think they're more comfortable than the Prius liftback seats. I had adjusted my liftback's seats with washers on the front floor mounts so the bottom cushion angle would provide more thigh support. I think I may do the same thing to my v.

I simply can't stand to drive or ride in my wife's Prius v. It would be a great car to drive and ride in if it didn't have those damned concave seat backs. I'm 62 years old, 6' tall and 180 pounds and have never had this much problem with back pain caused by car seats. I have no idea what to do about it except to avoid her car. My 5' wife seems to be OK in it but I wish I could stand it. It is such a neat car with phenomenal technology and I really would like to drive it more than the five miles every few weeks I put up with it to fuel and wash it.

Here's the sign of a 'cool' ?? car company ... they wait until 3rd model year of 3rd generation Prius to offer 8-way power adjust driver's seat, screwing 2010/11 buyers out of the option, then they magically bring it for 2012. And you think power seat is just another toy to play with? ** they are doing the same with first two model years of Prius v.

Hint: There is NO WAY to adjust the seat bottom cushion tilt in your 6-way mechanical adjust driver's seat.

Know what goes a LONG WAY towards seat comfort .....

    ADJUSTABILITY

    Not fixed seat bottom tilt.

Same age, same comment. Assuming Prius v seats are similar construction.

There's a medical condition, ahem, where you can be lacking in butt fat. Can make it painful just sitting. Seriously. Well it was featured in a King of the Hill episode, so it must be.

The Prius seats are good for short drives.

I did a 3 hour drive to the Getty Museum when I first got the car and it hosed up my back. The last time my back was out was a decade ago. Since than I never drove the car more than a hour at any one time.

One day I'll try another long drive. The car is just not that comfortable for a long drive compared to other cars I have owned.

Typically every summer I do a long driving trip to the California Coast or sometimes Las Vegas. We will see how I do.

I have the Prius IV with the upgraded driver seat with Lumbar and multiple adjustments. It is a step up from the basic model but not as comfortable as my previous cars BMW upgraded seats.

I think Toyota is heading in the right direction in the 2012 with upgrading the seats but it has a few more improvements and we are good to go. I'm sure older consumers would be willing to pay more for better seats, make it an option.

It amazes me how wildly different the reactions are to the v's seats. I'm 68 yrs and last year my wife and I did a 3000 mile vacation trip in my v. The seats were extremely comfortable. We drove about 600 miles a day and never felt sore or achy at the end of each day's drive...the first car I've owned that I can claim that.

I can get annoyed by this 2011 seat in 30 seconds. High chance the foam has broken in or broken down since new. So much tilt in seat bottom at low height settings (which must have at 6'2"), pressure on thighs is bad. Measured seat tilt is more than Civic, Accord, 8 cm vs 7 and 6.

Interesting that those confused people who did not notice this is about the Prius v, actually dislike their seat MORE than the Prius v owners this was directed to.

Compared to the Gen II the v's seats are much more comfortable. I have put in several 3+ hr drives with no problems on my sometimes tricky low back, so it will always be my choice for a long trip despite the somewhat lower gas mileage it gets compared to the Gen II. My 80+ mother's first comment on my new v was how comfortable the seats were. IF the seats were completely adjustable, as others have stated, they could be made to suit everyone. I can't imagine buying a new car and hating the seats--that would take all the enjoyment out of it.

I installed 1.5" of high density foam in the bottoms an backs if the front seats in our v. Made a huge difference and only took a few hours and cost $20. We couldnt drive more than half an hour before. Afterwards we drove 12 hours many times on road trips and have been more comfortable than any other car we've had. Do a search as there are a few threads about this mod.

The Fifty + crowd, they are the ones who save for a rainy day, take care of the children and parents, pay the mortgage off before retirement, still remember how to cook from scratch, follow the plan for retirement, keep the economy competitive, tolerate change and deal with uncomfortable Prius seats. They have climbed mountains. This Bud is for you!!!!
