I recall my dealer telling me the first 600 miles not to exceed 55 MPH, don't drive the same speed for a long period of time and not to be hard on the brakes.

Would be worth it to ask. It may be different for the PIP

Good call. I will definitely look into it. Although I think that doesn't apply to today's new cars. Has he been a salesman for a lot of years?

That would make sense then. Kind of an old school thing. At least from what I've learned on here.

From page 226 in PiP Owner's Manual:
    Breaking in your new Toyota:
To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is reommended:
    - For the first 200 miles (300 km)
    Avoid sudden stops.
    - For the first 600 miles (1000 km)
Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
    Avoid sudden stops.
Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

Just something to keep in the back of our mind as you head home. Have a great trip.

Anyone have much experience with charging at Nissan dealerships? I have been told that they don't mind a PiP charging at them night or day for free. True?

Even if so, that honestly sounds slightly rude to actually do so.

Congrats...What dealership in NJ? Got mine from Toyota of Turnersville. It sat on the lot for 9 mos. But I got a good deal (and a new 12v battery!) Pretty sure I knew more about the car than they did. Took several calls to get registration mailed, etc.

If there are two spots that are empty and my PiP sits there for an hour I personally think that is far from rude.

I've never been refused at any car dealer with a charging station, brand immaterial.. Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Nissan.

Separately, in the several long trips i took in the PiP, I've found that charging is most convenient at... gas stations with a convenience store next to a big shopping center. the convenience store always lets you pull in & park at the front wall, and always seems to have at least one 120V receptacle on that wall. I ask 9never refused), plug in, and go off to eat, shop etc at the shopping center. usually when I return there's a person or three waiting to ask me positive questions.

Finally, a simple travel suitcase combo lock will lock your EVSE cable to the car while charging. There's a li'l hole in the silver EVSE lock handle just for such a lock.

    Enjoy the trip!

At the dealership and it looks beautiful. Should be driving away soon.

On another note, it's so sad how little dealers actually know about the prius.

Went pretty smoothly at the dealership except they didn't have it charged. Will fill it and reset everything when I've burned about 3 gallons.

Sounds like fun Mark. After the initial fill-up you should make it home with 4 or less gas stops.

Alright, whew, that was a long trip! But well worth it. I was only able to get about three partial charges which probably added up to a full one or a little more, but they were all free. I averaged about 58-59 mpg for the trip. Love being able to be in EV going downhill at about 61 mph. Everything worked perfect.

I also took my first full charged trip this morning to my parents, which will be one of my most used trips. The trip was exactly 16.9 miles and I had .1 mile of EV left. :) The route seemed to be a little more stop and go than usual this morning and it was in the upper 50's. So I think I should be able to do that trip the majority of times (excluding winter) on just EV. Excited to do a few of my other usual routes now, too.

Coming from a regular Gen3 there is definitely a learning curve. Hypermiling a Gen3 is fairly straightforward and largely black and white. Hypermiling with all these other variables makes you think more outside the box. I like it. :)

Thanks to everyone who has followed my journey thus far.
