Believe the beep was put in place to help people realize their car is in reverse given the new fancy shifter doesn't really have a physical feedback for gear selection. I do find it a little annoying but understand it's purpose. Sure it might be a but unnecessary for an experienced attentive driver like myself, but for younger kids or even older adults it is a good reminder what freaking gear they are in. Guess its up to the individual. Glad to hear OP was able to get it done for free at the dealer. Shame others seem to charge for it.

Right! I got mine done for free as well. I am told that when the 12v battery is replaced the beeping will start again. I assume that if 12v was kept on the battery leads during the change you wouldn't lose the setting.

Not hearing it beep is something I don't miss!

I have the obdII interface and my laptop (I've been tuning for years). What program are you using to turn off the beep? TIA.

If you have an android phone or tablet the $5 App 'Torque' works great! It will also display as much data as you want. You can have a page full of analog gauges. And it will do detailed work, like that reverse beeper and show individual battery module info. I bought a 7" tablet just to mount in front of the steering wheel. It uses a wireless OBD II to Blue Tooth adapter.

As for laptops, I don't know. Is there a way to get an android app to play nice on a PC?

Just tried it and works just fine on my computer. Unzip both files (dll & exe) on a new folder on you desktop and run the exe. A window should pop up...

^^^ will try again...I'm running a Mac with parallels. I might have to dig up my old laptop for the task.

Thanks for the advice - I had the files in the same folder but there were many other files in that download folder, when I put them both in their own folder it worked and opened.

And how cool, it has both the backup beep and the seatbelt beep! Very nice. Thanks again for posting.

I'll give it a shot when I get home from work...it's a chamber of commerce day in Miami so top down Vette is the only way to fly on a Friday! ;)
