Toyota states that beginning in April Prius will come with XM Radio integrated into the car's controls as an accessory. Does anyone know if existing 2006 Prius owners would be able to get XM Radio integrated into their cars?

Maybe someone who knows the answer to that question will also know whether Toyota is using that exact same XM Radio in other vehicles now. Perhaps that part would be available to install in the 2006 Prius before April.

Hi! We have a 2006 Prius "satelite radio ready" car, package #8. We already have XM radio on our Highlander and want to have it installed on the Prius....but even the dealer does not know the procedure! Has anyone had it installed on their 2006? It is very frustrating! Wondering what exactly has to be done and what does "satelite ready" mean?
    Thanks!

For all issues above check out http://www.factoryinteractive.com/ for more details. They sell the XM tuners and self-install kits which fully integrate with the Prius audio system.

In the early days people just installed the Solara XM tuner because it mated up exactly to the Prius stereo (basically the same guts as the Solara stereo) and worked like a charm. The AM button then was also the button to use to get into Sat mode and memories, but with no SAT labeling. With the Solara tuner/Prius stereo integration, there were 18 memories listed under SAT 1, 2 and 3. The mode button on the steering wheel also cycled through all audio options with satelite installed (AM, SAT 1, 2, 3, FM 1,2, CD, TAPE).

The existing radio used with the Solara and sold by Jon at factoryinteractive has a 10 character limitation in the artist and song fields. The upcoming new Toyota radio is not supposed to have that limitation.
