I agree on the brand name thoughts, specially in Ire/UK.
What is the standard tire size on Prius II Gen in UK?
In Ireland I believe it is 195x55xR16. With these tires my ODO shows 4~5km/h more than actually it is. I only verified this with radars on the side of the road that shows your speed while driving and with my gps (tomtom) while cruising, perhaps could be other value. I don't own separate speedometer to test the actual speed.

Check out the following link - esp the part halfway down under 'International Agreements'; [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedometer]Speedometer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

The TomTom is a great way of sticking to the 'true' speed, esp on those 50 mph average speed check areas!

I put on a set of Kumho Solus KR21 on my prius after the stock integrity's wore down after 35k miles. I was getting well over 50 mpg at that time, usually 51-53, sometimes as high as 55 on the old integrity's.

Now after riding over 10k miles on the Solus KR21, I am still averaging, less than 47mpg. My commute is half the length that it used to be, (from 22 miles one way to about 12), and I may be driving faster or more aggressively, but I miss getting over 500 miles on a tank...

I would change them if I had the choice, and pay more up front for a more FE tire than these ones, although they do seem to grip the road better so the tradeoff is better safety I suppose.

I have the same tire. Its not a LRR tire but the price was very good and they have not worn a bit in 5K miles.
They are a superior tire to the pos Integrities so huge tradeoff in safety.
I took a 2-3 mpg hit too. That loss works out to about a $1 a week.

OK, the subject here seems "The Kumho" tire brand that's in question for a 2007 PRIUS-which is what i have. For what it's worth: I've been running 4 on my 1996 Dodge caravan-and I forgot what they were. Except for this fact-the tread has barely been worn, barely. That's 2 years of riding which included last summer's Florida to Conn ride w/ a fully (heavily) loaded van which went up Pa. mountains, thru torrential rains & HOT, steamy, I-87; I-95 and the darn thing rides SMOOTH. I mean, I've made 7 130mile (1-way) trips to my new home w/ this van LOADED & packed 2 the max on The Kumhos. So what does this all mean ? I know I've put at least 20K plus on The Kumhos...but, will they work on my beloved PRIUS ? Now, most of u great folks don;t know me and maybe u may think I'm putting too much of my research online here. Let me remind you folks that this time last year, I had spent hrs. into days d-loding CarFaxes & info from this site -to mul over & digest-all because I was OCDing on getting a Prius. All I can say: IT PAID OFF ! Though this year, I'm both in the middle of selling & buying a home and trying to best spend 500$ + on tires that BETTER last more than 30,000 mile & allow me to continue to get
my 49-52MPG which @ 72,800+ I am still getting (thank God & Toyota AND my pulse & glide techniques).
I'm calling 1 more place to price the michelin & goodyear as well as theThe Kumhos. After all this is done, I'll probably retire to a simple Go-Cart, stay home & play my Yamaha keyboards, cause I'm mentally exhausted. Regards, OCD-Don or whatever my name is ?

I am running Kumho EcoSolus currently, have 55,000 miles and still doing good treat-wise. They are ok, but the hard rubber compound they use means I lose traction now and then when on something slippery. Nothing major. Mileage for me is the same as other LRR tires I have used.

Hi bstephens, Thanks for the post which i have not gotten to until today. I chose to WAIT as my Service Mg measured & informed me- you don't need new tires, Sam'sClub was trying to sell you a set real bad. Thanks again for taking the time.

06 Sep 2014: Current information on a set of 4 Eco Solus HM KR22 tires (tyres, as the Brits would say) on a 2003 Prius (Gen 1). Purchased 05 Jun 2010; replaced 06 Sep 2014 after 52,000 miles. Wife started to notice bumping like tire tread separation was starting to occur. Took vehicle to tire dealer where purchased and sure enough, tread separation on one of the tires. Mechanic thought others would be separating not much further into the future. The tire tread depth was about 1/2 used (made sense, as these were warrantied for 100,000 miles), but not the tread separation.

Had Bridgestone tires (2 sets, OEM and replacement). OEM set had "dynamic" tread separation around 30-35,000 miles.

Replaced with Toyos (Extensa A/S). We'll see how these will last.

I once had a set of Kumho ECO Solus HM KR22's on my '07 Prius. They did fine...at first. Then, one-by-one I had to replace all 4 w/KR21's. ( The KR22's were no longer available. ) What went wrong was on each tire at different times a crack developed just off the tire bead. This allowed the air to leak out slowly. You might go shopping and return to a flat tire. NOT a blowout, but an air leak. Please keep in mind I DID keep the tire pressures monitored with zeal. The majority of my driving was commuting on city streets and Interstate highways, about 65mi. per day.
I had already put a set on my Ford Focus. They did not exhibit the same "defect", but certainly did not last the full 100,000mi. In fact they lasted about half that. I have since replaced them w/Michelin Defenders.

Just had a sidewall split on one of my 5 year old Kumho eco Solus tires. Like you, I check pressures regularly and drive normally. My low pressure light came on 5 minutes from home after a long hot trip. The tire was nearly flat when I got home.
I know Kumho recalled some KR25's a few years ago but hopefully they've corrected the problems.
I just ordered 4 Kumho Solus TA11's from Tirecrazydotcom $45 each after rebate. I think they are relatively new so we'll see.
