To my happy surprise my home in the foothills of Albuquerque NM is actually pleasant right now, courtesy of a personal fan pushing air into my face. I'm pretty sure the interior temperature will peak well below 90F.

So while I can count myself a resident of the SouthWest, I leave to others to share experiences of what it is like to actually deal with outside temperatures over 110F.

I live very close to the Pacific Ocean and it's 74 degrees outside. I did run the AC to cool the house down at about 3:00 when the heat peaked.

We hit 95 today. Went hiking with my daughter in the predawn morning. DW was fearful of the sun and didn't join us. She was right. By 8 AM, the rays were blazing. I had to carry my 2 year-old back down the hill. Taking a page from Al Bundy, I shuttled the family to the supermarket. We hung out there a little longer than usual. But before we were labeled poor trash, we skedaddled home and summoned central A/C. It has been on ever since. I'm glad it's off-peak hours.

We hit a high of 108 degrees today! It was god awful. We spent the majority of the day in the pool. Not looking forward to the 111 and 112 on Sunday and Monday.

Local news said it will reach 103 F on Sunday in my area. :( Was too hot to do anything at home in the late afternoon. It was 89 F in my room upstairs. It was in the mid-80s downstairs. I have no central AC. I have a portable AC rolling unit but it's rather loud and unpleasant to be on the computer w/it on.

Ended up going elsewhere w/my laptop.

edit: Made mistake. I originally said it'd hit 103. That was actually the Sunday forecast temp.

It's actually below normal from my experience. I remember as a kid we typically have some 10-15 days of summer heatwaves. Here we are half way through summer and we haven't hit triple digits at all. Yesterday's 95 was the hottest. Some other region of the world must be sucking away our global warming.

    Yeah, like Nevada and AZ.

The present heat wave is an anomaly from a weather front that came in from the Pacific -- at least so I understand it, although I really do not understand weather. More interesting, and wrt to your joke about climate change, the underlying mechanism is increasing variability in the major Pacific circulation stream. Is *that* related to climate change ? I'm looking forward to reading realclimate.org if the topic comes up for discussion.

Yeah, it's much more comfortable when the sweat evaporates straight away, instead of running down your skin. ;)

In the Northeast we are below average temp this year, in part the ground is so wet, according to Weather Channel the wet ground is holding down temps, as well as the rain of course. Philly hit a a record rainfall for June >10 inches. Normally in DC we are approaching 20-30 days over 90F by now, but this year only a couple days.

In the West is hotter than usual this year. Weather Channel had a nice segment explaining the dynamic we are seeing right now.

117 out here. I went out today at noon (mad dogs and Englishmen, etc.) and it really isn't all that bad. You deal with it. Take some cool water in case you get thirsty. We've been thinking of moving to Palm Springs which was 122 yesterday. I've lived in the desert for 18 years and am firmly convinced that your blood gets thinner. I sleep with a comforter at night when the house is cooled to 83 degrees because it is too cold otherwise. And yes, it is a dry heat. That makes a huge difference. You can put your hand in a 350 degree oven without a problem. But you wouldn't put it in a pot of boiling water.
