I have an '06, and I use the AUX out for my iPod. I notice that there is a noticable hiss or intermittent popping (albeit faint) when I am charging the iPod. I tried both the one in the dash and the one in the console, and both exhibit the problem. I was wondering if anyone here has the same experience.

I use the outlet in the console to power my Sirius, which is plugged into the AUX right next to it, and I have NO popping or hiss.

Here's hoping that it's just MY charger. At least that's easy to replace.

It probably is a Ground Loop. You would have to get one of these: Ground Loop Isolator as well as a jack adapter for each end (for the plug into the car and the iPod.) Like this. It says one comes with it, so you'd only need another one. Although, in my experience, they wear out eventually, due to stress from plugging and unplugging, so it's nice to have a back up.

I had the same problem with my old car and using an aux-in while charging, and same with a friend, and this set up eliminated both. I have never tried it with my Prius, well, because I have an '05, and no aux-in.

    Hope this helps!

thanks for the suggestions, and the lecture (seriously). I do not hear the noise when I am not charging, so it definitely has something to do with the current. The one from crutchfield seems to fit the bill because it's the 3.5 mm plugs. I'll give it a shot, thanks.

I just discovered last night that I have exactly the same problem. I have an 06 and an iPod g3. I just bought a 12v plug/cable for the iPod and tried it last night for the 1st time. Exactly as you described - from both power outlets: crystal clear if you disconnect the 12v source and hissing and popping background noise as soon as the power is connected. This is the power connector I used:

Please let us know if the Crutchfield adaptor corrects the problem.

The Crutchfield one should work as well. It's just simplified over the solution I posted. I wish they had that when I was looking around for one (3-4 years ago.) It must be a new product, as it's not in for another couple of weeks. I think the only options I had was Radioshack's one, or build your own (yes, someone had directions on how to do it.) Interesting to say the least.

I just received the crutchfield loop adapter and it works quite nicely (no need to mess with the RCA plug adapters). It totally eliminated the hissing from both the XM radio and the ipod when using the 12V power

Just tried mine on a long drive today. Worked great for me, too. Thanks to everyone who suggested it.

I had the same issue with a Sirius S50, plugged into the PO in the console - it was a 1KHz to 2KHz clicking sort of noise.

I remedied it with a 12V power filter from Radio Shack, which I wired in line behind the power outlet, using the existing spade contacts for the 12V wiring (and wow, are those ever small gauge wires for a 10A circuit.)

Taking off the console was a snap - pull off the cupholder in front, take out a couple of screws, remove 2 bolts inside the rear of the console, under the cloth insert. There is (just) sufficient room in a sort of pocket in the plastic underneath to fit the filter - you need to secure it, or it will drop down and block opening of the sliding-out storage compartment in front of the console.
