traction control\ stability control light on solid why????

Check the stability control fuse.

Could be a bad/disconnected sending unit from one of the wheels or just a computer glitch. See if turning the car on/off multiple times will reset it.

I recently hit the curb going 15? Mph after losing control on ice. The alignment is off greatly. I limped home at 10 mph. Later when I drove it agian at 20 mph, traction control light came on permanently and stayed on.


Is there a specific small part in the wheel area that handles this? Which may need replacement? Like ABS cable or sth? What is this “sending unit” you speak of?

 

Just asking the traction control why the warning light is on is the far more direct way to find out. If there is a problem with a sensor, it will say so. If it's something else, it will say that.

 

You could have damaged the abs sensor or wire.
You can use an ABS code reader or Techstream to find out which one, if that is the case.
You can also pull the wheels and make a visual inspection. And also find what is bent.

 

You need a scantool that can retrieve codes from the ABS system. Without that you are only guessing at what exactly is wrong. Many here purchase a "mini VCI" cable with a copy of techstream software (from amazon or ebay) and install it on an old windows laptop. Techstream is the diagnostic software used by Toyota.

Now if the alignment is "significantly off" (ie, the steering wheel is turned to one side as you try to go straight down the road), then the ABS ecu will usually set a code because it expects the steering wheel to be centered most of the time. That is my GUESS. You need the codes before doing anything else.

The traction control system is one of the functions handled by the brake/skid ECU, and that ECU has a handy feature where it can blink codes out on the dash lights if you don't have a specialized scan tool. You just count the blinks, as covered in a lot of threads here.

It's not as convenient as using the working scan tool if you have one, but it is more convenient than a scan tool you don't have, or one that doesn't work.

 

A little update:


After scanning and erasing with a Snap On computer, no lights are back.

there’s a code related to zero point of steering wheel and something about brake voltage.




After jacking up the car l, were just confused. Maybe the strut, lower control arm, and knuckle are bent. But we’re not sure. We are going to try replacing them with a whole knee $135 from car-part.com to straighten the wheel... And then do alignment to straighten steering wheel.


Feels rough coughing up money but car is still driving is thankful for that.
