Hi all, is this Bosch 26" wiper blade a good option for my 2005 Gen II?

And, two possibly dumb questions as I've never replaced wiper blades before: Will the above blade work for both driver's side and passenger side? And, is there any trick to replacing the blades, or is it very obvious?

I'm not familiar with Bosch wiper blades. Nevertheless, I guarantee that one particular blade will not work for both sides since the lengths differ.

If you've replaced wiper blades on other vehicles then there is no trick. If you have not done so, then the trick is to pivot the arm up so that it is away from the windshield. Find the little latch at the point where the blade is mounted to the wiper arm. You need to press the latch as you apply some force to move the blade assembly down from the U in the wiper arm, to detach the blade from the arm.

You will need two different lengths of blades for your Prius. The drivers side is 26 inch, the passenger side is 18 inch.

Very simple to change as Patrick Wong explained above.

cant speak for the Bosch, however I have been very satisfied with the Rain X Latitude wipers and they also look cool as an added bonus.

The rear blade is a 16 inch. There is a rear wiper blade that I know is sold at WalMart that looks and fits identical to the OEM blade sold under the Anco brand. It is in a mostly solid blue package (instead of the yellow packaging) and specifically says rear wiper on it. They also sell the exact same blade at Autozone for about $10 under the brand name Trico Exact Fit. In both cases I believe the part / model number 16-A. It will look like this in the picture below.

One trick with the rear wiper is that you can remove the plastic cap over the wiper arm, where it is bolted to the motor drive shaft. Once the cap is removed then you can lift the arm away from the glass.

You can also pick up a replacement blade holder assembly with the blade from the stealer. The assembly is very easy to change. Spread the plastic piece at the base of the arm and then remove it. Once that is done, you can swing the arm up and away from the glass. The blade assembly can be removed by applying slight pressure to the lower end of the blade while holding the arm. The first time I had it changed, I got the part's guy to show me how to do it. It is easy once you see how to do it.

Hi all - I got an ANCO 16" rear blade for my 2005 Prius, but I'm having trouble getting the old one off.

The plastic cap at the base of the arm will NOT come off. I've tried spreading it, but it's like it's attached underneath to the metal arm or something. I am using quite a lot of force, and am afraid of breaking the cap. Am I doing something wrong?

Steve, thanks, but the Prius's rear wiper arm won't swivel out like the one in this video; it's blocked by that plastic cap, and will only angle around 10 degrees off the windshield, which isn't enough to lift the wiper blade up to change it.

You need to pull up on the plastic cap to remove it from the rear wiper arm pivot point.

Thanks Patrick, I'm doing that, but as I said, it's somehow attached underneath the metal arm; the plastic cap appears to have some kind of tab extending under the metal. I spread the sides, far enough that I can see the cap's pegs have cleared their holes. But then when I pull up on the cap, it still won't come off. Any ideas?

The plastic cap is made of very flexible material. All I can say is that if you pull up, the cap should come off.

I have 10 months and 30,000 miles on a pair of Bosch Icon blades and couldn't be more happy. Course, it doesn't rain much in these parts. But when it does, bang-howdy. They were rather pricey, but since they were my first blade change I figured I'd try the high end first.

I use Bosch Icons also, they are great. Buy them at your local auto parts store, the clerk will install them for you for free. For the rear, I go to the dealer and get the rear blade insert (only the rubber blade). Slide the old one out, new one in. Fairly easy. About $6.

Yes, the beginning of this video will help see how the plastic cover is removed.

According to the US Army, there are no problems that can't be corrected through the judicious use of high explosives...

Steve, thanks. That is getting closer to a solution, but so far my plastic cap has absolutely refused to be lifted off like in this video. I'll post back with whatever happens.

    Good news/bad news.

The Good: I removed the plastic cap. It just needed a bunch of force. Thanks to Steve, that last video helped.

The Bad: The ANCO 16" blade I bought does not fit the Prius arm. It's too narrow and won't clip in. I also tried removing the ANCO rubber blade insert, and using it in the original Prius wiper. But it's the wrong size for that.

Seems like the dealer rear wiper insert is the way to go?
