So I was never into the whole phone mounted thing to use navi, etc, until I discovered WAZE navigation (crowdsourcing navi) which is the most amazing thing ever to happen to maps. I'm looking for places to mount the phone. I was digging through the forum and I found a few ones that seems pleasable (like behind the steering wheel).

Anyway, can we start a collective thread (if there isn't one already) of your phone mounts so I can figure out where to place mine?

I'll post a pic of my custom mount when I finish it. Its almost done, just waiting for the tap to thread it.

Its clean and simple and was inspired by another members phone mount idea. :)

My Motorola I had suction mounted in the little window like above.
My iPhone in otter box case fits nice and snugly on right of dash display in front of power/Eco indicator lamps.

I bought one that mounts into the cd slot. I love it. It doesn't block my windshield at all. It does block the view of just a sliver of the cars touchscreen but it's causing no issues so far. I find right there to be about the best location for me with it being within arms reach on my right. I'm not a fan of GPS or phone mounts anywhere up in the windshield area.

I've seen this! unfortunately I have an aftermarket navi so there is no visible CDslot to stick the mount on. Otherwise I would definitely use this one.

    Need more pictures guys!

I finished my DIY phone mount last night. I finally got the thread tap tool that I was waiting for. I was inspired by a fellow members iPhone phone mount solution where he custom made a wood mount that replaces and screws on top of the stock shifter.

I have no problems shifting the car into R, P, D, N, or B. It's actually very comfortable since you just slide your phone in the proper direction.

With the ball mount, you can angle the phone to whichever position you prefer. You can lock the mount in it's position with the tension screw under the mount. The mount doesn't swivel and remains locked in place. You can easily adjust it to landscape mode.

The phone is in a very comfortable position for your hand navigate the screen with your thumb. Not awkward whatsoever.

Here is my new shift knob!

Do you have a parts list of what you used for this base?

This was what I started with. I have a few pics on the hack process. I basically took the base (window suction and ball end of the joint) and hacked off the ball from the rest of the base. I left a little bit of the neck on the ball so I could have some material to work with if I needed it.

I put the ball on a drill press and put a small hole straight through the center. I sanded down the neck and tapped the thread all the way through the ball. The thread pitch is M6x1.0

Wish I'd seen this sooner, leaving on a trip in AM and that would be perfect for phone nav. Thanks for posting.

I posted a thread a little while ago (here) with some photos describing how to wire it to the fuse block.

I'm trying to find a good place to mount my iPhone 5 in my '13 Prius C Two. The corner window would be great except there's no easy, nor elegant way to get power to the Lightning connector.

I have a basic Kensington suction cup I had mounted to the last two jalopies I drove; not really wanting to put it back on the windshield as a power cable would end up draping over the radio/enviro controls.

Don't really want it in a cup holder either; that'd force me to take my eyes off the road. Might be running out of options (no nav screen in my model)…

By far, the best mounts are made by Pro Clip. They are customized for the car and are high quality. The only drawback is that they are quite expensive in comparison to suction cup mounts I.e. $80 or more for an iPhone 5 mount. But, no fumbling with cables. Just slap the phone in and go.

We use this "top" rated (4-star on Amazon) cheapo unit from Arkon for $15.
They give you a whole bunch of optional mounts.
What we like most about it though, the ball socket is compatible with Garmin GPS mounts.
So we only use the Arkon phone mount, we then insert the ball socket into a Garmin bean bag friction mount, which we set on the dash of our Gen2 when needed.

Do you use USB power only as needed? Slick job BTW!

I only use the USB power cord as needed. I have a long commute, so it's usually always plugged in though :)

    Thank you for the inspiration!

    Here's mine.

Screwed right on, took 1 minute.

Do a search on Amazon for 'in your face iPhone', and get the gooseneck clip on holder for $26. I've had one for years, and found that if you unscrew the holder from the gooseneck, the ball (part of the ball and socket) will screw right on where the gearshift was. Unscrew the shifter, slip the tightening ring over the stick, screw the ball in, put the iphone holder on the ball, tighten the tightening ring, and in less than 1 minute, you're done.

No drilling, tapping, or glueing, and if you want to change it back, you easily can.
