That doesn't sound good at all. Most everyone is reporting a short period between the check clearing and receiving the stickers. I'd certainly try again, maybe a registered letter with a photocopy of the cashed check along with a copy of your application, if you've kept one.

    Good luck!

Call DMV customer service. If you can't find their number from the web site, just call the regular number posted for routine business and ask them for the customer service number.

I feel for you!! Mine were late for only a bit more than a week compared to what others had reported recently and everyday that it wasn't in the mail was a downer.

In your cancelled check, you have proof that your application was received and should have been processed. I think its time you started making some calls or writing to get them in your hands as soon as possible. The stickers come in an envelope the size of a large birthday card, 9" X 6", so I can't imagine you missed it with your junk mail. Something's gone wrong here!

Well, I know I appreciated everyone's update to the application to sticker-received time line, so here's mine:

    1/14 buy Prius
    1/19 mailed application
    1/30 check cleared bank
2/11 received stickers #47522 (my application went to clerk B! )

But they're so ugly, maybe I'll just leave them off and suffer with the rest of the world in the normal lanes.

Ohhhhhh noooooo!!!!!!! I sent off my application for the clean air sticker yesterday and just realised I forgot to put a check for $8 in!!!!! CRAPPPP!!!!!!

I'm going to have to ring up during the week and see if they've received it and pay for it by credit card over the phone or something. Man that is so annoying!!

I recommend doing what you are planning, but at the same time, putting another application in the mail with the check and a note explaining the situation. That way, even if you call and give them the information tomorrow, that might not get to whoever processes the application you sent yesterday. You would only be behind the day between your original application and your duplicate application.

I apologize of this has been covered 100 times before but is it faster to go the local AAA and drop off the application? Thanks for your help.

AAA would only be helpful if you can coordinate with the dealer to get the VIN number in the system at AAA along with getting plates. But I have only heard of this being done at DMV, preferably at a local office walked though.

As far as the HOV sticker, that must be mailed to the Special Processing Unit in Sacramento.

Does your question mean you finally found a car, after the terrible experiences you mentioned in the other thread?

    Thanks for the information jsf.

I don't want to jinx the deal but there may be a silver pine mica Prius #8 in my driveway in a few weeks. I received a call from Greg at Tustin Toyota. After explaining my mishaps with the other dealers he assured me that would not happen again. I drove to Tustin, wrote a check for a car that should arrive on the Long Beach docks next Friday.... yeah. I might take my boat out to watch it get unloaded off the ship. I didn't pay MSRP but it was well worth the extra money to me to deal with a proffessional and courteous sales manager like Greg.

I always get excited about a new car and this is no exception. :D I can't wait for it to be delivered. As soon as the car arrives, I will post some pics.

That's great. You've been through alot. In the meantime, read up on the threads on HOV stickers. If you can get the dealer to walk though the registration to DMV and get the plates right away, your VIN will be in the system when they get to your HOV application. You don't need the plates or even know the plate number to get the stickers, but the VIN must be in the system with the Special Processing Unit gets to your application. Getting the plates ensures the VIN is in the system.

My own opinion, don't worry about above MSRP. You've spent much time seeing the situation in this area, and the extra money is a trade-off for your time and aggravation and getting the car sooner rather than later, based on when you started looking. For many people it is a reasonable trade-off.

Well, If you are paying over MSRP, he should be the most professional and courteous salesman alive. They just made extra money off you and people are always happy when they make extra money. In the end, if you're happy with what you paid, that's all that counts. I got my Silver Pine Mica #8 the beginning of January from Carson, I'm glad I didn't wait until now to buy like I previously planned. I'd be in the same situation as you. :p

Today's San Jose Mercury has an article with the latest numbers:
    48613 applications received
    44957 stickers mailed
    as of 2-9-2006.

They also quote a Caltrans spokeswoman and two traffic reporters to the effect that hybrids are NOT significantly slowing the HOV lanes, and that there is little chance that the DMV will stop at 50,000; they will almost certainly issue the entire 75,000 stickers that were authorized.

A plot is attached. At the present rate, we shouldn't hit 75,000 till August or so.

    Kirk,

Thanks for the pointer. Here's a link to the actual article for anyone interested in reading it. I'm not sure for how long the article will be available online.

    Hi Kirk,

You stickers mailed number seem a little off. I got my stickers last week and was number 48,000 (almost). The article from Mr. Roadshow only said the had received 49,000 applications. Are you looking at a different article for the stickers mailed number? It seems a little incongruent from the posters tracking here.

I can't guarantee that the numbers are correct. But I copied them correctly from the San Jose Mercury News, which claims that they came from the DMV and include stickers as of Feb 9, 2006. Here's the link:

    PURCHASED PRIUS: 1/13/06
    GOT PLATES/REG: 1/20/06
    MAILED HOV AP: 1/21/06
    RECEIVED STICKERS: TODAY (2/15/06)

    So took 3-4 weeks.

There is nothing in my envelope that tells me what number I am...doesnt matter to me though

I got mine on 2/9/06. How did you get your plates in a week. It was suggested that the dealer could go to DMV to speed things up. Wish I knew it earlier. Wonder I could still fix this. The HOV sticker is the main reason I bought the car.
