Hello. Just got my first Prius a few days ago. Loving it so far. Bought it from private party. However, the CD player is not working. It is the 6-CD player (JBL player I believe). I try to insert a disk and it will not insert. I try to eject any disks in it, but there is nothing in it. I can't choose another disk on the screen either. So it will not load or take disks. I don't know what do. Help? Pics attatched.

in order to put a disc in the player you have to hit the insert disc button - this cd play is not the kind that you put the disc in and it senses it. Each disc you put in, you must hit the load disc button.

when you press the load button do you hear any noise?
On mine, I had to tilt the disk a little for it to grab it.

No noise on the load button. I tried every which way, wouldn't go in. And I am only pressing the eject button in the picture to show the red light I get.

can you ask the prior owner about it?

also from your picture, I think there is a disc in slot 1 (the light is on)

Are you able to hit disc1 and play it?

the previous owner said they had no problem. I don't believe it. And there is no disc in slot 1, I am positive. I press load and the green light is on 1 but the red light on 2.

if the previous owner is nearby, I would go back and have them show you.

    No harm in trying.

To me it is pretty obvious that the CD player thinks there is a disk in the #1 tray. I think in the end you are going to have to replace or repair the CD player. I base that on the fact that #1 is lit up in your photos and that you say you cannot play it. What that means is there is probably a disk in the player, but the drive wont spin up to play the disk. Plus the drive is not ejecting the disk which again says that there is a problem with the motors or gears inside the unit.

If it was me, I would try to find a used unit at a junk yard and swap it out. Or if you are not DIY type of person, then take it to Toyota and pay the man.

I don't think it is going to be a easy fix at this point.

I am guessing you already tried unhooking the 12 volt battery just to see if there was some sort of error in the electronics that control the unit. If you haven't done that, try it. You won't hurt anything other than losing your presets for your radio and you will have to reset the auto up on the driver's window.

you might be able to buy a refurished cd player from Toyota. When they replaced mine (2007 Prius), it was under warranty.

The itemized bill showed it was a little over $200. Not sure how much they would charge when it is out of warranty.

By any chance is there an extended warranty still on this car (if there was it would probably be a 10year/100k warranty)
