I looked threw the Front End Noise thread and there seems to be a few diffrent proplem's. I don't have the Brake shim noise. My'n is a random
clunk that comes from the front pass side. I took it to the dealer and as expected they had never heard of any problems ect even after I told them about the TSB for the brake noise.

Some one in the Orignal front end noise thread said thay thought it could be a coil loading and unloading ect. This seems to be in the ball park of what my noise could be. The question is How should I go about get a dealer to fix it.

Part of the problem is its not a Noise that you can make happen over and over its kind of random. Any Ideas would be great. Thanks G

I have a 2010 type 3 Prius that was purchased in July of 2009. The car has what I call heavy steering and lots of clunks in the front end. The return to center function of the steering is almost non existent. My impression of the steering is that it resembles a '63 VW bug with crappy tires on it. My wife is actually afraid to drive the car the noise is so loud. New Michelin Defender tires have not accomplished anything toward resolving the clunking coming from the front end on rough California roads. The car has 35,000 miles on it and has all the warranties in place. After reading all the posts about this problem I wonder if anyone has found a solution to the problem or is it any one of a dozen things which can be expensive. Also my wife drives a 2010 type 2 Prius with 45,000 miles on it and it drives like a dream and doesn't make a sound.

My front end noise turned out to be the steering rack which is the rack and pinion steering mechanism. It took a day or so for the dealer to figure out what was causing the noise but when they figured it out the new steering rack fixed the problem. I think the car drives better than when new. The return to center function works well and the car is easy to steer and makes no noise.

I have the clunking noise when I shift to reverse and move backward. I too, need to learn ways to communicate to dealer so they can fix the problem.

    thank you.
