Read the whole thing ignoring highlights cause they never explain how they come up with the numbers, especially the explanation of the "Estimated percentages" Compare to the raw numbers found. If you look at table 2, they would have you believe that the percentage of people with cell phones is 20% or higher, BUT if you are somewhat smart you will figure out quite easily that the percentage is bogus. Also, I don't believe in estimates (a fancy term for guess), they are as useless as the person who gives it to me... theres more but i just wnated to point those out.

Thank you for the links OrangeNerd. I always try to read more about a studies methodology to understand how they come up with numbers. There are good and bad scientists, and good and bad studies. With that said, I would like to flip your statement "they are as useless as the person who gives it to me" to estimates are as useful to me as the person who gives it to me. I like to know where the money for the study came from to help me determine the useful/uselessness of any estimate or stat.

This type of statistic (texting causes accidents) seems very hard to generate because people will not want to offer this information to people who can record it for future studies. Unless there was a serious accident, investigators are not motivated to investigate the reason for the crash by checking cell phones and cell phone records.

So instead of looking at all/many accidents and estimating texting contribution, I like this study that watched truckers over 6 million miles and came up with some interesting observations; http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-10296992-94.html

I am in my second Prius C (first one written off by out-of-control ute!) My first one (2012) would tell me if I had a text message 'you have a message from Harry, would you like to read it? Ignore it? or reply?' Then if you said read it, it would read you the message. I think this is a great way of safely getting a message without having to take your eyes off the road at all.

My problem is that my new Prius C (2013) will not read or download my messages from my Phone, which is the same phone as I used in the last car? Is there some setting that I have to change? It will integrate with the phone for phone calls but not messages?!?

BTW I can vouch for good safety features in this car which was an issue for me transitioning from a Landcruiser!

The Prius C is an I-Tec and the phone is a Nokia Lumia 920 Windows 8

i use the Lumia 920 as well. If you have the HU set on bluetooth audio, when the lumia is connected to the HU and in handsfree mode, you will still get the notification and be able to use voice command to read messages and make phone calls.

Oh Gosh, Thank You but just checking HU = head unit??? and that is a setting on the car not the phone? think I remember seeing it but I chose the other option - that might be the problem. I will go and check - Thanks so much, I will be so glad to get it working!

I'm not sure if any other country gets the same head unit as we get in Australia, so keep in mind it'll be different for most posters here! Generally if all else fails it's often worth getting the head unit and phone to forget each other, then pair them again. You'd need to go into the Bluetooth settings on both devices.

I use an iPhone and a trap we have when doing this is that we have to go into the Bluetooth settings a second time and enable "notifications" before the SMSes start coming through.

Glad to hear your first c did its job properly. (y)

My HTC EVO worked in my 2012 Plugin until a recent update by Sprint. While it worked, I used "Speech-to-text" to keep from hitting that semi you are talking about. I am NOT a happy camper that it doesn't work. Speech-to-text texting is legal in California.

My aftermarket JVC handles it awesome, I hit the PTT button and my phone (S4) says "you've recieved a new text" I say "Read text" and it reads it outloud, I can then reply via voice, never taking my eyes off the road I can send/receive text, I love the feature.

Technically, yes. The colours and resolution of the screen mean I've never even bothered trying it out (nor have I used it to display photos, which apparently it can do). I believe it will only do these things while the vehicle is stopped.

I also have a Prius 'c' 2012 ( what is out -of-control ute ? )( should I be worried ? ) anyway I have tried many times to find away to have the car read text with no luck. I tried with iPhone 4 & 5c . My wife has 2011 Prius reg. hatchback it works for her & when I asked how she said she had to press phone for SIRI to read it & then it comes through car .
