:)I agree. But multiple cars can be a PITA. Best to "get your mind right". A vehicle is for transportation, and a fuel efficient vehicle is best.

:DCommonly known as a"shock to the system". Just a note, paying premium fuel prices sucks. Paying diesel fuel prices sucks even worse.

If MPG is not a concern for you, there's no reason to drive the Prius. GTI is a much better vehicle in terms of ride, handling, and overall performance. Prius is acceptable in all areas of being a car, and exceptional at MPG.

You forgot the most important factor. It alone trumps all other factors. It is what gets us up in the morning, allows us to sleep at night. Ready?

    The Chick Factor.

Prius just attracts a much better quality gal.

Are you willing to part with that? I didn't think so.

VOLT's are awesome, TDI VW's are good, efficient and reliable, but the small experience I have had with the collection filter on the Diesels have been a pain. my VOLT has much more umpfhhhh in SPORT mode than a GTI, and so much more efficient. Our Prius V is the great efficient family car. Having another car for a toy, weekend car is nice (ill be getting a MX5 for my toy) but you cant beat the efficiency of the Prius' and VOLT's. Id try to sell the PiP first before loosing a large amount on trade in.

Hello ron___, God bless you that you have the financial where-with-all to have this debate. I'm a regular-Don(not Joe) who OCD'd for a PRIUS since i 1st rented them during my families vacations of '08, '09' & '10. My DREAM was granted last July 24th w/ a 2007 that by chance was fully LOADED & 59k MILES. i NOW HAVE 73,200+ miles and I NEVER, NEVER, EVER get BORED ! In fact, my wife & I are in the midst of a MAJOR move 130 miles north of our 'old' house, the Dodge Van's a/c QUIT SO i'M MOVING using the PRIUS DREAM. Filled up w/ bins & things to the MAX I averaged 65-68MPH & w/ the proper tire inflation got 55+M.P.G. !!
The JBL speakers & 6 CD player + my XM radio allow me ROCK-N-ROLL up 7 down i-95 ! Our last trip we drove 128+ miles and the gas gauge did NOT more a pip ! Ya think a VW can do that & rock & roll you as well ??? You want more excitement while driving may I suggest a more exciting passenger. (no offense intended :)

Part Two: The last pic is my son telling the world "I LOVE DADDY'S PRIUS." Nuff said. ;) OCD-DON

The Prius has great MPG - no doubt about it. But I can't tell you how good it feels to drive that GTI - I am getting 25 MPG, but the smiles you get shifting and zipping around are priceless.

There is a Golf GTD coming out - handling of the GTI, with a diesel engine that is more efficient. That's going to be amazing!

I really do admire the Prius, I don't want to knock it. But for a long distance commute, it just wore me down too much, I think it does better around town and shorter distance, regardless of the great MPG. This is for me, anyway - others may feel different.

Biggest contrasts for me aside from MPG with the GTI are comfort and driving orientation. The soft, sport seats in the GTI are very comfortable and have never made me sore, while the Prius would give me bad pains. The Prius also has an unnatural seating position, while the GTI feels like a sports car and fits like a glove.

Hopefully the next gen will be improved for the Prius - a mixture of the CT200h would be good. (That has a good driver's position IMO, and how the Prius should have been)

A co worker in his 5 year old GTI started to have expensive mechanical problems. Volkswagen parts are expensive and the quality is not close to the Prius. The Prius 4 I have the seats are comfortable with electronic adjustments

If you are getting a GTI. Go for a Ford Focus ST. Cooler, faster, cheaper, and similar gas mpg.
