Yup, for the young to get insurance on a small car with only say a 1.0l engine can run in to thousands, I see on TV that some American kids (16-18) drive around in big engined cameros , corvettes, bmws etc etc all of which are powerful. A kid in the UK of similar age simply wouldn't be able to get insured on those sort of cars.

What also drives premiums up is uninsured drivers. If they are uninsured there is very little you can do about it accept report it. Also bogus claims for whip lash and other injuries for deliberate crashes are getting more common, especially with immigrant gangs. We have a claim culture in the UK very much like the US. In fact, 3 minutes after finishing on the phone to my insurers I got a call from a 'no win no fee' injury law firm asking if I had suffered any injuries. I explained that the accident happened at about 5mph but it didn't deter them.

My last claim my car was stationary I was not in it and a claims company still said I could claim for whiplash. Figure that one.
I cannot figure why our insurers pass on these details knowing that a larger claim may be put to them.

    There all vile over here.

My 07 got rear ended a few years ago. Pushed me into car in front and bent the front bumper too. Took it to the dealer authorized body shop. Saw the receipts they charged my Insurance Co retail for the bumpers. 2 years later got a scape on back bumper and could see different color paint underneath.

Used bumper. And really not surprised. Just to tired and disgusted to go back and complain. It's a battle.

Yes I also vote for going to dealer. Using factory parts.
    Best wishes.

I meant that I've been hit by the person in front of me backing up, that this has happened twice, and oddly enough, both individuals admitted that it was their faults. I was surprised, because in the U.S. you can claim that any read-end collision is the fault o the car in back of you, and you get out of it. Both times this happened, I left more than a car length in front of me. These guys found reasons to back way up.

Well, my prius is all repaired and it looks to be an excellent repair...

I didn't go to a main dealer because by the time I saw the advice from you guys it'd already been taken away. The company is called Autorestore (3rd largest of its kind in the UK apparently), and credit where it is due they have done the repair to an exceptionally high standard. The panel gaps are perfect and line up true to the lines on the other side. They even replaced the wingmirror where the black plastic surround was scuffed from a previous owner, it wasn't even part of the original damage! The colour match is perfect, the guy said that they sourced the new bumper from a Toyota dealer and that it was already painted my colour. They don't seem to have skipped any corners. They even put £10 (c.$14) of fuel in it, even though it was collected and returned on a flatbed transporter. Happy happy happy.

It came back valeted, but not to my standards, so I think my pri now deserves some tlc with a wax and polish. Oh how I missed the car...

Wow, nice repair job. Looks as good as new. (y)

If it's any consolation, the way that accident happened - running up the back of a car after it makes a false start - is the most common causes of minor bingles on the road.

Over the course a person's driving career I'd say most people will either do this themselves or have it happen to them. I've seen it happen many times to cars close to me, and I've had it happened to me. Luckily I've though I've never done it myself, but I've got to admit I've come close to it more than once.
