Money is a factor, that has nearly universal agreement among most posters here. The issue is whether it should be the only major factor. When it is the only major factor, your points are valid sometimes. In some cases they are not.

Here are some things I have to question:
"...they don't have to worry about the battery that may die in 10 years" On the surface it is a true statement. In the real world it's essentially a worry about a very minor thing in a sea of major things. EVERYTHING eventually fails, the Prius batteries just a whole lot less than most everything else....and this is the only worry in a 10+ year old car? Do you realize how many conventional cars don't make it 10 years.

"I have co-workers who dumped their SUV's and got a Prius thinking they would save a lot of money." They DID save money. Could they have saved more money by more drastic actions? Of course. That's 100% true for your Prius purchase as well. You have set the goal posts so narrow that even you can't get through.

"The bottom line is driving a Prius isn't going to save the world. " As a 13 year Prius owner, I've heard that one a few too many times....and mostly from other Prius Owners on this forum. I'm still looking for that renegade owner who made that claim (humor here). This returns us to the original point....how much should just purchase price/gas price matter in a car purchase? Well, If the purpose of life is to just focus on money, then clearly a lot. If folk have other purposes, then maybe they have other car purchase factors.

People's behavior changed due to the fact that gas price has reach a breaking point. The Prius ISN'T taking business away from the SUV because all of the sudden people fell in love with the Prius. People still love the SUV's but for money reason, they will tolerate the Prius.

I don't know how many miles you drive a day. I know a teacher that drive a big Suburban 6 miles round trip to work at school, I bet she is greener than you and a lot of other Prius drivers since she use very little gas. We should have more people like her instead of Prius drivers who put on 50 to 100 miles a day. Hence the statement "driving a Prius isn't going to save the world"

What's wrong with focusing on money? Toyota exist because it's about making money. Besides, you can't save the world and here's why. The human birth rate is too high and in 30 to 40 years, the population will double. More and more countries are industrializing. The people over there want to live in a modern environment like the Americans. That means more pollution will be created. At the same time, medical technology is making great advancement so people are not dying as quickly as they should. Therefore, the old people just hang around creating more pollution even though it may be a smaller amount. You could drive a Prius for the rest of your life and all that will do is delay the inevitable. Humans will eventually destroy this planet.

The substantial number of things you have to ignore to make money the central focus of one's life.

. When yout post is disputed, and proven faulty logic, you just skew off in another direction of faulty logic. I think you are just a troll.

. Tons and tons of faulty logic and pure BS, YOU ARE DEFINITELY OUT IN LEFTFIELD.

The object of this and other Prius forums is to provide information and for members to assist each other. This is a PIP FORUM, you cannot speak accurately because you don't have a pip. Go to the Gen III. forum.

Yes, very curious that "Dan Cathy" became a member very, very shortly after said other person's profile disappeared after violation of the terms of this blogging site. Anyone know if the moderators can confirm new IP addresses to see if things are on the up-and-up?

A quick review of "Dan Cathy" postings shows very similar grammar, style, punctuation, truncation, etc. to said other person's style; also use of CAPS for similar specific situations... Recycling several words including "steal" in other threads...Shows up about 3 days after other name disappears...HMMMMMMMMM

EV owers are not going to go beyond the range of the vehicles expecting to get a charge to get home. Exceptions might be people who work at companies that provide charging. So there is never going to be a charging infracture in the same was a gasoline stations.

The Tesla idea of string of stations to help people extend a long range EV is possible but even then most will plan on overnighting at the end of their range. Charging would be pay-for-use at the hotels. But the idea of charging stations at every parking meter is not goint to happen.

If I did that with their current 300mi range, that would take me 3 days just to get out of Texas.

I would be willing to bet there will be a charging station everywhere money can be made by installing one. That might be good enough.

I also remember someone telling me (decades ago) we could never afford to pay for all the cell phone towers to provide coast to coast coverage for every citizen in the country. That is true, but certainly not in the sense that the original statement was intended.

He told me what happened. I decided to join to debate with the ignorant people who think the Prius is going to save the world.

Misstating you debate opponents position and then arguing against that position is called a straw man argument.
It is one of the most poorly formed logical fallacies.
Ad Hominen attacks is the crudest, logical fallacy which require the least creativity.

We welcome debate, but if your position is so weak it can't survive scrutiny why even start?

Thank you for pointing out that I'm not creative. That's exactly what I want to avoid. I only go by numbers. You could drive whatever Prius you choose. If human population continue to double every 30 to 40 years while death rate continue to decline, your "greenness" will not be able to compensate for the increase in pollution that will be coming in the future. I don't know how the weather is going to effect the food supply. The real problem is that even the scientists don't really know either. I drive a Prius to save money, I'm not naive enough to believe that the Prius is going to save the world. To save the world, it's going to take much much more effort.

Um, no. Shameful trollery. Went back and reviewed more of your posts and it is without a reasonable doubt that "Dan Cathy" is you, the one and only "prius_in_pa". Our admins can check, and it will show you are also using the same IP address. You are again in violation of the terms of use of this site.
