Most of us drunks have replaced the aux battery because we own a voltmeter and can see the battery is going bad. Some of us drunks have family we don't want to get stranded and then have to deal with jumper cables or AAA.
The car roadside assist company not the other.

Aren't you worried about that when your mom borrows your car to go do your laundry?

Do you check it as often as, well....that...you know....when you do that thing....whenever you're alone and no one is around?

My '05 has just over 245k, and I put all but 3 of those miles on myself. I do all of the routine maintenance myself (oil changes every 10k, air filters every 25k, CVT fluid every 75k, coolant and plugs every 100k, etc)

The only costs outside of maintenance/tires have been the HID leveling sensor, 12v battery (once), blower motor, and the engine water pump. I know that a major repair could be necessary at any time, but that's the case on any car - no matter how new it may be (we have 2 Chevy vans where I work that have both had cracked head gaskets and major A/C repairs done after the 3 year warranty was up). So far, the cost per mile has been much, much lower than any comparable vehicle due to the constant 47+ MPG, which I'm still getting By the way, those head gasket repairs on a 3 year old Chevy cost as much as a brand new traction battery would be in my car.

Maybe not as much luck as with my Prius, but much more understandable to have head gasket problems at 175k vs under 40k with our Chevy vans...seems pretty isolated based on how many high mileage Prius are out there.

 

Maybe not just browse the Technical Issues forum. Lifespan of the car is about 10 years 180,000 miles per Toyota. Many exceed that others never.
Prius is a safe and reliable car. I give it that. However after a decade much can go wrong. It is like an accident waiting to happen.
