    Vulcanman--you're asking a lot of questions :)

For me this "just works". I can plug in either the data cable or use it over Bluetooth. I have an iPhone 5 on Verizon, tethering comes with the Verizon plan.

Thanks. Is this is on a PIP Adv?

So, I have an iPhone 5 on Verizon as well. So on yours, the Pandora app on the NAV unit connects to the Internet via the data cable?

Mine works fine via BT ... But if I turn off BT and hardwire ... The NAV unit complains that Bluetooth is not connected. Hmmm.

Yes, I have an advanced, but I've never tried exactly what you describe (turn off bluetooth when attaching the cable). May I ask why you're trying to turn off bluetooth (I have a Pebble watch paired to my phone via Bluetooth as well, so I almost never turn it off)

If I don't turn off BT ... It lock on to BT connectivity. I prefer hard wire ... But it does not work via wire.

I don't think you can actually do what you're talking about. on page 311 of the nav system manual, there's a paragraph that says:

An iPhone cannot be connected via Bluetooth and USB connection at the same time. However, it is possible to
recharge an iPhone while using Entune by connecting via USB. The system uses the connection method that was
used last. Therefore, if connected via USB after Bluetooth connection, it is necessary to reconnect the iPhone via
    Bluetooth.

I think what they're saying here, is that for iPhones if you want to use Entune apps like Pandora and you've paired the car to the phone via Bluetooth, you cannot use the USB cable for Entune data anymore. The USB cable can only be used to charge the phone and the data for the apps has to go over Bluetooth.

Now, if you don't have any Bluetooth pairing, then using USB for Entune might work. However, then you don't get some other things (like handsfree for phone)

I prefer to run mine over BT and use a separate 12V charger. The USB data port in the center console can only provide .5 amp of charging power. Most phones will take advantage of at least 1 amp, and some phones (and all tablets) can use even more than that.

I'm surprised to here that the USB port is not 2.1 amps, since it seems to charge my iPad 2 and iPhone 5 really fast.

    Slightly off topic but.....

what i have done is simply take all my iPhone/iPod music and copied it onto a USB stick, now whether i have my iPhone with me or not, all my music is in the car always, and I have created my "playlists" on the USB stick as well.

So for me my BT is always on, which is strictly for my phone usage when driving....but i keep radio in USB mode using my music off the USB stick.

If i ever do need to charge on a longer trip...i just plug my iPhone car charger into the AC plug next to heated seat switches.

Whew! What is wrong with me? I just get in and drive. Plug in my iPhone if listening to an audiobook or continuous music. BT works great. Charges really fast. Nav wonderful. I never even think of all this stuff. Am I paranoid thinking I'm odd just relaxing and enjoying the system or are some really OCD and I'm somewhat normal?

I am with you Big Dude! I feel the same way. I've never had a headunit with so many features so I love it. Works well. And I don't need to plug cords in and have things suction cupped to the window to get these features.

I'm pretty satisfied with it as well. I had a $1k aftermarket Pioneer Navi head unit in my Supra with most of the same features, but none of them worked as well. About the only advantage I'd give the Pioneer is that it was relatively easy to override the speed/parking brake interlock.

I think what you're missing is that the Entune app needs to be open on your phone when connected via USB.
