It was bugging me that I hadn't done the elusive 20 mile EV trip yet. So I had some time tonight and the weather was warm but not crazy warm...so I did it!

There were actually 0.3 miles left on the gauge so I could safely call it 20.4 miles. And this was round trip from my garage to my garage again, so elevation was not a factor.

The route I drove has at least 2 dozen stop lights and probably about another dozen stop signs. Luckily I only had to come to a full stop at about 7 or 8 of the lights, the rest I timed pretty decent. While I wouldn't call the route hilly I definitely wouldn't call it totally flat either.

I drove some residential (25) but most of the route was 35 mph speed limit and even a little was 40 mph. I obviously didn't go quite this fast but there were some good chunks I was cruising around 30 mph or more. (hardly any traffic, so I didn't annoy anyone)

Just kidding, per your description it seem you've fail to make a dozen fully stop in front of the stop sign. May be Nebraska doesn't need you to have a full stop in front of the stop sign. In California, in law, we need to fully stop at a stop sign, look left, then look right and look left again. Each look assume one second. That means we need to spend three seconds in front of a stop sign before proceed if safe. If a cop found us not stopped for three seconds, he will give us a ticket. Haha.. Just for fun.

:)Congratulations. If we were all politicians, we could truthfully report the Prius Plug In gets at least 20 miles per EV charge.

I come to a stop sign and say humpty dumpty in my head then go.
Here in LA, I've seen it a million times, the person behind me with not even stop at the stop sign and tailgating me as I pull away from the stop.

avg speed? looks to be approx 20mph correct?

Nice job....My best so far has been 18.1 but that was without trying..haha.

The key is to do this around the slow suburbs where streets are 30mph. I live out on country where most roads are 45 or 55 mph so its hard for me to do over 18.2 EV.

    Nice work!

Correct, slightly under 20 mph average if you just do that math. But that's always a bit misleading on average speed since that figures in time you are spent at a stop light. My moving average would probably be a little closer to 25 I'm guessing.

Wow, if you can get 18.2 without trying than a 20+ mile trip should be a cake walk for you.

Yeah I always forget the stop light standing for avrg. MPH. I guess cause of my rural setting and roads i dont have any lights that keep me for the most part. I would love to have a day where noone is out there on the road and just go 15-20mph solid. Im guessing over 20 ev miles???

When i did the 18.1 I stick my CC on 24mph since that is slowest CC will allow...then I had one area where i needed to go 40mph for about 1 mile. But other then that for the most part its flat, no stops and i used my warning lights on a rural road that had very little traffic on a sunday. At least with the warning lights when i see rearview car coming they just go around and dont need to slow.

It would be great to be able to drive at faster speeds and still have 15-18EV miles....Im hoping the next PiP can do that!

well done!(y) i've never gotten more than 18 or so, and it's pretty flat around here. i think the avg speed was around 23mph. if you reset a trip meter, it will tell you.

Yesterday i was able to get over 19EV miles (19.2 with .1 remaining).....This was mostly all 25mph with several stops/lights. I do have a 1.5 mile stretch where i must go 40mph which is always what kills me. But the rest was mostly all 25 on CC. I really think if one could go nonstop without lights or hills and went under 20mph they could get well over 20 each time....this is where you keep the HSI pretty much down where you barely see it showing! hard to get such a trip though without other cars, hills, lights, stops ect ect...

funny how the stops really play into the AVG SPEED, i kept close tabs and mostly was at 25mph actual on CC.

Kudos! The best I can get around here is 12-13. Maybe if I try at 3am. :D

It's really good especially with traffic, lights and signs. :p Keep up the great work! :D

I know I can get between 17.5 and 19.2 pretty consistantly, (in the summer). Above that it gets really hard, has to be a great day, I have had a couple 20.1, 20.3 and a wacky 21.3 but that is about it in the 20's.

wow, anything into 20s is tough for me...i need to do it in a different area where noone bugs me...haha

I noticed today I had to run down my road which is 55mph.....i never do very well at those speeds obviously but will use EV due to the fact its right out my door, and using HV early sucks due to not gaining it back fully.

anyway, today we had a stiff 25-35mph NORTH wind.....and i was going south at 55mph! I was shocked to do this same 5 mile stretch i always do but ended up only using 4.6EV miles!! Normally i would use nearly two miles MORE on this same road. Left house with 14.6EV range, and got to end at 5 miles, and EV range was 10EV remaining. WOW!

I always knew aerodynamics came into play at higher speeds, but never realized how much!! I watched the HSI and it was hanging down around 1/8 from bottom at 55!! that never happens at those speeds....WIND behind me was awesome!

Yes, 15 EV miles is what were promised on preproduction models, but 12.5 is what we really received. If you nurse it you can get higher, but 12.5 is the honest EV distance accelerating with traffic from red lights and a mix of 25/35 and 40 mph zones (in a flat / mild hills area).
