I was just on the phone with the business manager for my dealer. We are doing everything over the phone since I'm 2 hrs away. He did his job and tried to sell me a service contract but I declined and was not pressured any further. It would have cost about $1495 and covered everything for 6 years. We drive about 20,000 miles per year, but I didn't think the service contract was worth it. It seems to me the parts they are covering with the standard contract are sufficient.

Did any of you purchase or not purchase an extended service contract?

I just found the information here on Prius Chat about the discounted Extended Service contract apparently for less than $1000. I wonder if this would be cheaper for a package #4. Also, I understand I have 3 years or 36,000 miles to decide so maybe there is no rush to get one.

I'm generally against buying these contracts as I think in most cases, they are a waste of money. The only time I have purchased one is for a treadmill and it turned out to be a wise decision.

So $1000 or $1495, do you feel these are a waste of money or a good idea to get if buying a Prius?

    Hi Andy

I used Troy for an extended waranty and was very pleased with the price and the service he offered. I didn't feel the service contract was worth it, however.

    Enjoy your new car!

If you buy three years of extended warranty for $1500, you're betting that the car will cost you over $500 per year in repairs for years 4, 5, and 6. Would you expect that from a Toyota? No wonder Toyota wants to sell everyone an extended warranty, they probably make as much on extended warranties as from selling the whole car. :p

Isn't it bumber to bumper ? with road side assitance ?

I know if the CD changer broke and it was out of warrenty i wouldnt bother fixing it ... but its great to be able to fix it and still be covered for other things.

No, I wouldn't expect that from Toyota. I'm thinking that if I am going to spend $1000 or even $1500 in repairs in the first 6 years, I am going to be very disappointed. I guess that's why I declined the contract and stuck to my policy of no service contracts unless purchasing exercise equipment.

Yeah, Andyman, I bought the extended warranty AND the service contract. We have an excellent dealer here, and I have used them for all of my service with previous Toyotas. Maybe not such a wise decision financially, but worth it mentally.

No service contract, but I did buy the extended. If I didnt, the standard warranty would have been up in 15 months :D
