Is the defrost element in both of the small triangular rear widows? I noticed the passenger side has the defrost element embedded in the window but not the driver side?

Just the passenger side. My reasoning is that the driver can't see out the driver side rear side window. Hence, no need to defrost.

My understanding is that is an antenna, added beginning MY 2012 for better reception, not a defroster.

I guess I stand corrected. It sure looks like a defroster. I guess that is why I don't have the reception issues others complain about in earlier models.

Yup, that's an antenna. It's for HD radio.

We established it must be an antenna because it's on the same side in the UK cars, so driver side for us.

I established it's an antenna because Toyota themselves told me during an unveiling some time ago in San Francisco for the 2012 model year Prius and PiP, Lol.

    I still think it's a defroster.

Antenna? Verrrrry interesting. It looks like there is also an antenna buried in the window at the top of the rear hatch. It is different from the defrost wires that go unbroken across the window. In addition there is an antenna on the roof. Here, in the PC Shop part of this blog, there is a shark fin antenna to replace that antenna. How can that little antenna replace that big black thing on the top of the car? How does it do that without sacrificing some amount of radio reception? Why doesn’t Toyota do that to make the Prius look more appealing?

There are a bunch of antennas on the PiP. There is AM/FM , HD radio, GPS, Sirius/XM. For the Advanced, add the antenna for the built-in SafetyConnect cell phone.

yeah it's also not a defroster because i've had that window fog over many times and it's incredibly frustrating
