After 25,000 miles... Maintenance/Road-side assistance

Roadside assistance with your ins. co. would be my guess. Can you change your own tire ?
I don't have roadside assistance, but I can change/repair my own tire. Other than that why have it ?

They take hours to get to you no matter who you're with. By that time, you could call a local
tow company and pay 80.00 for a tow to the nearest shop, but I doubt you'll ever need to with the Prius

 

I don't know about maintenance but road side assistant is free for me from Costco Insurance.

I think at 30,000 miles, first maintenance required after 25K, I'll change the tires at Costco to have free balancing and rotation every 5,000 miles. And I'll change the engine oil, anything else I can ask and learn how to do it here.

 

I use AAA. It has been very helpful. You are covered in any vehicle you are riding in, not just a particular one.

 

I have always had triple A just in case I would need a long distance tow, but I'm not sure it's necessary for most.

I have a similar question about the 30k service and wondering what I should expect the dealer to hit me up for.

I prefer CASH. It works with fixing everything.

Those "insurance policies" pay for only certain things like towing and certain limited repairs.

There are NO excluded coverage on CASH. If you don't use the road service, you win. The CASH is yours to keep.

In 43 years of driving, I've NEVER used road service. I was towed once. It cost me $55.

I've changed many tires and drove all over the US.

This depends on where you live (how expensive tows are), how capable of a mechanic you are, and your tolerance for driving older / not perfectly maintained vehicles.

Before i bought the C i always purchased used vehicles. On two occasions in my life i broke down, both close to 100 miles from my house (breaking down meaning not something that could be fixed in place).

As i do my own repair work (at least on my previous vehicles which had no warranty) i would rather be towed home than to the nearest garage or dealer.

The first tow cost me $600. The second one was covered by my triple A.

Additionally, i tell friends and family if they are within driving distance of me i will show up and let them use my card.

I would say only two years since i started buying it have i not actually used it, but i am still way ahead.

Plus, there's the discounts/coupons/club services if your into using those sorts of things.

My family and I have used AAA several times through the years. Daughter had car die, Daughter had truck overheat/battery issues in the mountains in CA, I had a timing gear fail 50 miles from home, plus a dead water pump in a W-M parking lot all the way across town and not near any parts stores or tools.

Peace of mind in knowing that no matter the location or the time there is someone coming is priceless for those that have no skills/tools/spares.
