ticket for tinted tail lights, and a call for help!!

This whole thread would have been a non starter if the OP had kept their OEM tail lights.

Haven't you hung around the internet enough to know when someone is just trolling. But in all seriousness, I wouldn't tint my lenses because I don't like the looks of the outer lenses smoked. I plan on separating the lenses and painting the chrome black, however... but this isn't illegal. But in a time of need, do you really think the OP wants to hear "you shouldn't do that... it's illegal" I'm sure he is probably saying. "No.. you don't say!!!."

 

So you have at darkest 35% tint all around? Haven't changed the headlight bulbs to brighter than OEM? Didn't turn off daytime running lights? These things are all illegal somewhere in the united states. Why not just help the guy out and be a friendly forum, instead of giving grief?

 

I'm not necessarily doubting you on this, but I've never heard of such a thing. I know places that require daytime running lights, but I've never heard of a place in which DRLs were illegal!

 

That's what I was saying. Sorry, didn't mean to confuse. I was asking if he didn't turn them off... as in have you never turned them off, because if you ever did you are breaking the law.

 

I don't think the look of tinted lights is worth the rist of getting into an accident. They simply make the brake lights too hard to see in the day AND night. Plus it makes your CHMSL seem strangely intense... I've had my tail lights tinted, BUT... I had them tint around the brake lights covering the "decorative" excess of red plastic, leaving the tail/brake lights and side marker lights unscathed. It's also not the DARKEST black, so you can still see a little red when the sun shines through it. It looks really cool, doesn't look like a kit, AND the company even liked the idea so much that they took tons of pictures to put in their catalog. With the different versions of this car, I'm not sure how well it would work/look... But I'm happy, and it differentiates my car from others juuuuust enough.

I have run across only a few people on this site that intend to help people, but the majority are the "high and mighty" ignorant people that give prius drivers a bad rep. It's sad to see so many people that have enough time to criticize multiple times without adding anything productive to the thread.
