Seriously, I need some positive and/or kind words. It's not buyers remorse as such, but I'm sure many new owners experience the same slightly sick feeling that everybody in the world got a better deal than you did. I went through Costco's pricing program, and ended up with a Blizzard model 3 Prius with solar sunroof and navigation, 6 year 125,000 maintenance, (I put a LOT of miles on a car, around 18 to 20,000 a year) gap insurance, (yes...I know now) and a car alarm for 33,000 as the final price including taxes etc. I also did it with no money down and 0% financing over 5 years. Please tell me I did "okay"...

I will add I love the car, it's a blast to drive compared to my Matrix, and it's a big step up for me. But I'm a miserable negotiator, and I put my faith in Costco, which now I'm beginning to wonder about. Thanks in advance for helping me through this "crisis".... ;-)

You seem like a nice bunch here...

It's hard to respond to your question without a detail list of the cost of the items you purchased. Break it down and you'll have a better chance of a good response. What is the cost of the extra warranty, gap insurance, car alarm and taxes, etc?
The users here can give you a reasonable comment on the purchase price of the car....the other stuff is questionable!

Ah, yes. This might be asking for trouble, the deed is done, no looking back now. But here it is anyway...

    Vehicle cost: $26, 437
    Alarm: $745
    Service contract 6 year/125,000: $2,395
    Gap ins: $895
    $0 down, $0 interest.
    gulp....

Just wondering, what is gap insurance?

It pays whatever the balance is on a new vehicle if it's totaled. In other words, if you drive off the lot and a truck smashes you, with normal insurance you'll receive the actual value of the car, regardless of what you paid for it. The owner is responsible for the balance, if there is any. With gap insurance it will pay off the loan completely. I was told later that night it's one of the bigger scams at the dealers, even though it's a good idea. Apparently it can be purchased much cheaper through your own insurance. Of course, after the fact is when your friends volunteer all sorts of ways that you "could have" saved more....oy!

Did you negotiate at all for each item or that was the offered price?

I negotiated a bit, but the idea of the Costco program was to minimize the hassle. All quoted prices on extras were reduced by 15%, and the dealers price on the car was reduced by $750.
I realize this thread is only going to lead to misery. I should focus on how much I love the car...

Thank you sfcyclist. I could have skipped the overpriced extras like gap insurance and the alarm I guess. The Maintenance package has been useful in the past, I guess we'll see. At least I'm not paying any interest on top of it.
I seem to remember doing this to myself the last time I bought a new car. People would ask what I paid for it, and would then wince. They all do that. But my matrix has lasted or 10 years, 200,000 miles on it, and it still runs okay. So I feel like I got full value out of it, whatever I paid for it. Hopefully I'll feel the same way with this car. Cheers.

As a newbie I probably shouldn't jump in here, but impulsively, would like to add a POV. After some intensive reading in the forums, it seems that pricing may depend considerably upon the area in which you live/shop. If it makes you feel any better, I found the original dealer invoice on my "new to me" '08. Without the extended warranty, the invoice reflected close to 29K.

I've read on the forums where others have purchased new '13 Prius C's for about the same price as I paid for my low mileage '08, (although when I had previously researched the C's in my area they all reflected sticker prices of at least 5K over that). But you know what? I absolutely love my Gen ll and wouldn't trade her for a brand new C, even for the same money. The important thing is that you are happy with the car; + or - a $1 or $2K is, in the big picture, completely irrelevant. Enjoy your new awesome ride!

Elaine, I REALLY appreciate that, and you're absolutely right. One thing I don't regret is my choice. The car is sweet, and I love the way it looks as well. I paid what I paid. Now I'm just gonna enjoy the ride! Cheers!

Jasonic....I have been looking for a car myself and reading multiple posts. I think as far as the car goes, you did fairly well. I agree with the other poster it seems to depend on where you live, etc. I have seen and hear of prices about 1,000 to 1,500 less but those were not the Blizzard Pearl (which is more) and there were different incentives available at those times... Keep in mind that you were able to take advantage of the awesome interest rate, which reduces your bottom line.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over the deal.

I am not sure if you can get the service contract any cheaper. Maybe research some posts in this forum about the gap insurance and extended service contract in regards to pricing and other sources. You may be able to get your money refunded and purchase those elsewhere.

Enjoy your awesome new ride....I totally can't wait until I get mine!!

You always want to rip the band-aid off fast.
It hurts a little, but only for a little bit.

    OK?
    OK.
    Get over it.
    You're driving a Prius now.
Unless you can get a refund, there's absolutely NO gain in worrying about what you paid for the car, unless you can canx the warranty and the GAP insurance - which you very well MAY be able to do, and if so you really NEED to do.
You're probably in a CARB state.
If so, there's even less value in the extended warranty than there would be if you lived in a less oppressively regulated state.
There are warranty extensions for CARB states.
If you don't know what that means Look it up.
Get used to doing that and by the next time you go to buy a new car---which ought to be a LONG time from now, you won't get..... (*!*) er.... You'll make a really good deal. :D

If you can afford the monthly notes and you drive it for a few hundred thou?
You'll be MUCH better off than people who got less fuel efficient cars at bargain basement prices.

    Walk it off.
    Make your payments.
    Drive the car.
Unless you're one of those morons (like I used to be) that get a new car every 3-4 years, this car will still be VERY cheap to own and operate.
Let's face it....there are people who got shanked like you did on Pickup Trucks and SUVs.

    Best I can do... ;)
    Good Luck!

Jasonic, just out of curiosity I did a search for a similar car to yours ('13 model three) in my area (oil producing state w/no incentives for hybrids or ECs) and the only one that came up in Blizzard Pearl has a price tag of just over $30K (Car only w/no added TTL, warrantees, etc) ...and no mention of that coveted solar sunroof either. So if someone in my area happened to be shopping for that particular model/color, they would consider that you got a steal. Seriously.

Perhaps the story may be different in other areas, but again, who cares, since you got the perfect car that you wanted?

Congrats on the buy!!! Im looking also..

    Question(s)

Alarm: $745: Doesn't the 3 already come with an alarm? or is this like lo-jack tracking or something?
Service contract 6 year/125,000: $2,395: Not sure if the service contract is a maintenance plan? ESP? both? If its ESP, get a refund and look on this board for either Jerry Johnson in Kansas or another guy in MA somewhere ( I don't know his name offhand). Not sure if they can sell the maintenance stuff or just the ESP
Gap ins: $895: Im sure if I spent over 30K I would get this for sure..that does seem high though, but probably based on final price.

I'm jealous, I love the blizzard color!! I havent found mine yet!!
