Neighbor Prius2 battery died->Tow truck came->Horrific sight!!

    She thought she did turn off the car after getting home late...anxious to go to bed.
    The battery apparently died since she could not get the car started.
    The car was parked head first in the garage.
    She called the tow truck/flatbed.
    I guess he could not push the car out, the front wheels could not move.
    He proceeded to hook up the car, turn on the winch and pull the car onto the flatbed, while the front wheels were stationary, tires SCREECHING like crazy.
    Doesn't this damage the tranny and was there a better way to get the car on the flatbed?
    She says it's a company car, so to her, it does not matter.....hmmm, buying a pre-owned Prius....anyone?!

    Rubber tires skidding on pavement or concrete do not screech.

    What could have possibly made that noise?

    but seriously folks, all they had to do was open the hatch from the inside and jumpstart her.;)

    1) use mechanical key to open door
    2) pop open the hood
    3) refer to the manual and put a 12v across the proper terminals
    4) this should get you enough power to pop open the hatch
    5) replace the 12v battery

    No towing is needed

    When tow track is called, they do what they know, that is towing. It was the owner/driver who was dense here. My daughter managed to get my car towed once due to illegal parking. It still drives fine, but I'm sure they abused it too.

    My wife's 2007 Chrysler Pacifica was parked in our driveway a couple of weeks ago. Parked facing the garage. Shift selector broke and car was stuck in Park. The local dealer ordered a flatbed tilt-bed truck to pick it up. You guessed it, hooked onto the back and drug it backwards onto the truck bed. Tires "screeching". Fixed the next day.

    Granted, a Pacifica has a transmission and a Prius does not, but dragging a car backwards at a slow pace shouldn't be enough to cause damage..... other than about 10' of tire scrub marks on the driveway.
