And many Prius owners wonder why they get no respect

I'm fairly middle of the road as far as driving goes. I'll do 70-75 as traffic goes, pretty much speed limit in and around town. Don't really care who passes me, never screw with those that seem to be d!ck$. If I pass you, I'll continue to go ahead of you. If you speed up to be a d!ck, I'll pull right back in the lane, cruise control at the same speed.

At this point, I'm not quite sure who has the edge. Smug Prius owners, or the jerks they try to pi$$ off.

    Elitism at it's finest.

^ I get it - flaming and speeding makes you feel good - let's try your reasoning. ;)

Last I checked, any US major city is going to have a posted speed limit 55-65 - not 70-75. Maybe you are going 70-something, but if you are not tailgating, honking, swerving that does not annoy me much - just pass me and it's alright. But how is going at the 60 PSL in the right lane "smug" and "elitist?" I've heard this frequently that you are a better citizen speeding with the pack, but smug if you stay at the speed limit - this is just being defensive.

Know someone that drives his Tahoe and Prius the same way, but definitely gets treated better in the Tahoe - so much for the smug/elitist rubbish.

My head does not swell to the point it can't fit inside the car, and my friends would laugh wondering what you are smoking to think that.

The first several posts indicated the direction. I go 70 plus if the traffic flow warrants. I NEVER tailgate, honk, flash, flip, etc..

If someone's going the PSL I'm fine with that. If the majority of traffic is faster, I'll pass. No anger. People that speed up if I try to pass pi$$ me off, but only for a second. Now I know why they do it. Many of the Prius opweners here pass me all the time, and many are Type A drivers.

I never said anyone driving the PSL or slower was smug. I DID say the actions in this thread were smug, or worse.

^ Maybe I'm blending your previous post with many, many others.

And I did not think you do things like tailgate, aggressive left-passes, flashing lights...

For clarity, I see nothing wrong, anti-social, or smug with doing the PSL in the right lane on a freeway - I'm glad you are fine with that SteveVee, but many on the freeway clearly are not....they want to do 75 on EVERY LANE of the freeway and occasionally the shoulder. :(

I agree Chuck, some drivers are not aggressive as they are enraged or even delusional. Here we have other issues. People that pass on the Interstate, then slow down ;)

Absolutely no need to make matters worse.

I find this discussion very interesting. PSL, (posted speed limit) it's amusing to me that people over look or reinvent the word "limit"! People some how decide its okay to go 5 over,( because in the old days police had a margin of error in their equipment calibration), not so today. So if 5 is okay then why not 7, if 7 over the PSL why not 10. Now the actual design of the road as they are engineered for safety is 55 understand that is only if condition permit. Yet in the rain, at night, people are going 10 mph over the design PSL. Even more amazing they get angry, imagine they get angry at folks doing the limit. They get furious at folks doing 5 mph below the limit try to imagine folks driving safely, legally, trying to save on gas and enjoy the ride, and they get harassed by theses bullies.
Those same road bullies, bobbing and weaving in and out of traffic in the never ending race to nowhere, are constantly putting our families and our property in harms way. And we are suppose to have any compassion for this Behaviour? Seriously, these king babies, their just angry bullies, that's all. Selfish, self center, self righteous, small minded, over inflated ego, jerks.
Kind of like when a traffic light turns yellow. Yellow can mean slow down or stop. Red obviously means stop! Yet every person watches people speed up on the yellow and often run a red light! That's why so many camera's are now mounted at said lights.
Pass me, go around me, I don't care, but tail gate me or cut me off and now I'm pissed. I don't like it when other people in their 3000 pound missile is placing me, my family, or my property in harms way. So if something or someone i love gets hurt, I'm sorry just wont cut it! Now I'm pissed, just as pissed as if you were to pistol whip my wife. Those bullies will never forget who they hurt and why they are going to pay for it.

If they keep the camera but you get a warning I'm ok with that if it improves driving habits. The fines so high it just messes with you

    On the tailgating thing.....

About a year ago, I was driving home from Canberra with my family. It's a four-lane highway (two lanes each way). The speed limit is 110km/h, but the Police won't generally stop you if you're doing less than 125km/h, as long as you're not driving like an idiot (if you are driving like an idiot, they'll stop you for doing 111), so I usually set the cruise control to 123.

There was a line of slow traffic doing about 100km/h in the left lane (the slow lane). In the overtaking lane, there was a line of three cars in front of me, all doing about 115. I kept a safe distance behind the car in front of me. Some muppet in a ten-year-old Holden Commodore came up behind me. His front bumper was within two metres of my rear bumper. I couldn't go anywhere: there was a car in front of me and a truck next to me. I flashed my hazards. He didn't back off. I wasn't willing to travel at 115 with someone that close behind me, so I slowed, very carefully, with the brake lights on, to about 80, and pulled in behind the truck that I had been passing. The Holden muppet immediately pulled in in front of me and slammed his brakes on. I very nearly hit him. Then he sped up, and then slammed his brakes on again. I backed off, and let another truck pass me, to get between me and him.

But not before my wife had got his licence plate. About 20km ahead of us is the Goulburn Police Academy. They often have loads of trainees (with qualified officers) practising traffic stops on the highway. So we called the police's non-emergency number, and reported the car.

The car was typical of an overly-aggressive driver in Australia: a lowered ten-year-old V8 Commodore, with a few crappy spoilers, and a Southern Cross sticker on the rear window. (The Southern Cross is the star pattern on the Australian flag, and a sure sign of a racist if it's stuck to the rear window of a car and isn't part of the full flag. It can often be seen next to a "F--- off, we're full" sticker.)

A couple of you mentioned that excessively aggressive drivers are not necessarily fast, and this was the case here. When the road cleared, he sped up to 120km/h. I stayed about 1km behind him, so I could see him. And we got t Goulburn. And sure enough, he slowed down when he saw the cops, but it was too late: the blue lights went on, the police car chased him, and the police pulled him over. We waved as we drove past. He didn't look pleased. It was very satisfying.

I'm normally a Zen Prius driver. However one day a middle-aged crisis type pulled beside me at a stop light with a brand new Vette and was revving his engine. My battery was full at the time. I beat him to the next stoplight.

I'm guilty of this (and the stoplight). Although I never take it below the speed limit. But keep in mind most of the posted speed limits around where I am are 25 and 30 MPH.

Now considering that the roads "should" be posted 40 and 45 mph based on traffic laws, but have a homerule law that set the entire town to 30 MPH except when posted higher. The speedlimit is annoying enough.

Lately since I've joined the righthand lane brigad, I've noticed the truck drivers that can go faster than 65mph really will ride your nice person uncomfortably close. (I do my best to stay in the right lane, but sometimes I'm passing people too (they are doing less than the speed limit of 65mh))

Great bike! I use to own an 08 I think or it could have been an 07. Last year for the 1000 that i know for sure. I moved up to the GoldWing, I just couldn't get both feet flat on the new Connie! Must say though I loved that sport tour! Now honestly I'm not complaining about the Wing, and I can assure you the wife certainly isn't complaining about the Wing!

I have an '11 and I love it. I looked hard at a bmw but I could have almost got 2 of the Connie's for the price.

The new wings are great bikes, that flat 6 is damn near bullet proof.
