At the end of Jan, I called HOV hotline. The lady told me that the had 5600 applications (?). There must be a queue between stickers issued and the applications.
Does it mean that you won't get one once the applications reach 75000. It does not look like it will last till August.

The license plate number is not required for your application. However, the DMV wrote my license number on the back of my check, so it must me in the system.

Did your dealer rush or do anything different to register the VIN number in the DMV
system. I just found out that they are going to submit the registration (VIN) number
etc with all other vehicles two weeks after the date of purchase. Reason told is that
they are the bigger dealership and need to process many transaction. I am not happy
    about it....................

If I recall correctly, the dealer I went to told me that they submit the registration electronically to DMV (Hayward Toyota). From other posts that I've read here on PC, some dealers mail them into the DMV every few weeks like your dealer. I purchased mine back in Dec '05 when there was somewhat of an urgency regarding the HOV stickers. But, from the latest news, you should have no problems now obtaining them.

So call your dealer and tell them you would like yours submitted immediately, based on the state's limit on decals.

License plates are NOT required, nor did the DMV write the plate number on my cancelled check. The HOV decal is tied to your registration and your VIN.

Purchased my car 13 JAN 2006, and recieved my HOV (#48333) decal today.
I still haven't received my license plate, and the HOV card doesn't have a plate number either.

Don't know if it will help anyone eles get their stickers quicker but here is my story.
My co-worker and I picked up our new Pirus on the same day Sat Jan 21, 2006. We rode together to SF on Monday Jan 23 2006 to the FastTrack to get our transponders but more inmportantly the paper work to submit to DMV. I mailed my check and paperwork that same day. My check was cashed by DMV on Jan 10th 2006. My co-worker had to get a money order so she mailed her's on Tuesday Jan 24, 2006.
She got her sticker on Saturday Feb 18, 2006. What a wretched week waiting for mine!
I got mine in the mail today Friday Feb 23, 2006 with the number #49021. Good thing because I told her if I didn't have mine by Friday I was taking hers!

So does it help to send a money order who knows.

WHOA BOY...car pool lane here I come!

1/2: Bought car. The dealer offered to send in the forms for me once my license number was assigned, so I left the DMV form and $8 check with her.
1/28: Get voicemail from the dealer saying she'd gotten the license info and mailed in my forms.
    2/16: License plates arrive.
2/17: DMV check clears (the date 2/15 was stamped on the back).
    2/23: Receive stickers, #48xxx.

I've been quite curious about this. Why not show the actual number? Is there some sort of privacy thing with the number that I'm not aware of? You don't cover that number when you drive around with the car do you? :)

What do you mean? The stickers come with the x's. :)

I try not to give out huge amounts of personally identifying information. My understanding is that it's not too hard to get someone's name and address from their license plate number, and the sticker numbers are linked to the license numbers, so in my mind better safe than sorry. Plus, I think we've seen that they're not given out in numerical order, so the difference between knowing whether I got #48000 or #48999 really isn't that useful for most people here.

So yeah, people can still read my license number (or come up really close and read my sticker number) if they see my car on the street, but the people who I manage to enrage online (or who want to take advantage of little details that I might mention here, like the fact that I'm out of town for a week and just remembered I left my house unlocked and several large piles of cash on the dining room table) won't know it.

I am glad to see our timeframe is about the same. Where are my damn stickers!?

I bought my prius Jan23rd, send in my check the next day, it was cashed on the 10th, same day as yours. No sticker today, hopefully tomorrow. It seems that most people receive their stickers within a few days of the check being cashed, I am starting to get worried. Side note, there was no license plate number on my back of my cashed check. Hope I get mine soon!
