i've got an '04 Prius that I wanted to hardwire a dashcam near the rear view mirror. I've see a few references to using the power for the auto-dimming rear view mirror, but I don't have that in my '04.

Is there a power source up in the headliner that I can use, or another source that I can tap into that is only powered when the car is on (say in the fuse box under the driver side dash)?

i plan on using a 12V->5V adapter with a mini-USB plug like this I found on amazon

    thanks!

I added one of these 12V > 5V for my mobile phone to my 04 Prius, I removed the console in-between the seats as well as much of the dash and run power taps off the 12V accessory socket. There may be a better way to to do it but I could't see one.

i also have a 04 Prius and that one has a sunglass holder on the ceiling of the car. You can maybe tap the power from your interiour dome light. You only have to build in something like a small switch because otherwise it keeps drawing power. But i would prefer a long cale around the windshield down the A-style and connect it to your ACC power. so that it will disconnect when you turn of your car.
