Bought our first Prius this past Labor Day. v 5 in the dark grey, not my first color choice but growing on me.

It seemed the perfect fit. Our daughter is turning 3 next week and we are also taking care of my elderly uncle. We also live about 20 miles north of Austin and we like to camp. I found that we weren't doing as much because our older car doesn't have much room and only around 27-28 mpg.

We looked at the C-Max and v. C-max just seemed too big a compromise on space: the idea is there but just not quite enough. We actually preferred the v ride. I, personally, don't think most people buy hybrids for the best acceleration. I wanted comfortable ride, room, easy in and out for my uncle, tight steering for parking lots, and just a nice feel. The v delivered on all of those.

Entune has worked fine except for a weird glitch on Labor Day. I took to Entune and the display right away. I think I spend a bit too much time on the instant mileage looking down. It has been a wonderful joy to drive.

I have a few questions. I have heard the v doesn't allow for 'pulse and glide'? Is there a 'break-in' period where mileage may improve after? If new apps get added should they add those via an Entune software update? Would that be delivered via a thumb drive? Thanks and glad to join the Prius family.

Aside from driving technique, the best thing you can do for the MPG is tires. Inflate them a minimum of 5# over recommended.

BTW, your profile states v-3 but your thread states v-5. If you have the 17" wheels tire choices are a bit limited, but a true LRR tire like the Michelin Energy Saver A/S will improve mileage as well. For me they added 4 MPG.

    Welcome !!
As one who regularly gets over 30 percent higher than epa, I - can tell you this .... Give it some time - your new car has a break in period that requires thousands of miles to accumulate - not just tires but the entire powertrain. Yes, things will improve ... now go enjoy.
