I Beat the EPA--Post 'em here

Greetings from the UK. I filled up my Prius to full tank last month and have been commuting (mostly) to work. Round trip is 36 miles at speeds of 40 or 50mph on London's A406. Urban street travel is between 20 to 30mph. At least 2 major pockets of heavy congestion are encountered enroute and the terrain is often hilly or laced with long inclines.



As you can see from the picture taken this afternoon at my local Shell Fuel Station, I managed 601 miles of commuting before the last bar began to flash. I immediately diverted to my local Shell Station, gambling that there should be enough fuel to get me there, but also relying on the downward slope for the last 1.3 miles AND a full HV battery to ensure that I'd make it in event of total fuel failure. In the event, I made it successfully with 605 miles indicated and at a not inconsiderate 66.0mpg! And that's ALL city driving. Half the time (in the afternoons) the A/C was on the lowest setting for the entire journey home everyday. Where possible, pulse and glide techniques were used, in other situations, I would cruise along on Electrical Power for about a mile or slightly more before the flat terrain turned into an upward slope.

While not driving like a snail, I did adhere to generally NOT doing fast accelerations on the road, and taking full advantage of regenerative deceleration by planning ahead. I stuck rigidly to imposed speed limits, often using Cruise Control where possible! A sweet spot along my journey gives me 3 miles of fuel free motoring using the "Auto Pilot".

I've never had a car that gave me 605 miles from 43.19 litres of fuel before!! My last record was exactly 500 miles with one bar to go - (previous fill up - 41.73 litres).
I'll never go that low again, BUT I've proved that 600 miles from a Prius II in the UK (City) is entirely possible!

 

Installed enginer 8 KW system enhanced with Pacific EV BMS on 03/18/12. Until then overall MPG (since January 2007) was 54.1 MPG. Current everage (since 03/18/12) is 77.6 MPG and this summer average (Jun 21 to date) is 89.2 MPG. I have pictures of display instrumentation in may car showing various MPG performances. Anyone who want to see them make a request and I will give the website address.

 

55 mpg---429 miles 7.8 gallons. I am averaging 50mpg after 4 tanks so far

 

My best tank so far. Was on the last pip for 30-50 miles, put 8.53 gallons in to fill it. Worked out to 62.5MPG. A bit over half the miles were 25-35MPH speed limit P&G'ing, the rest were on the highway with 60MPH limit and me usually exceeding that. Temps ranged from 60-90F, most of the driving was done at about 80F. AC on less than 1/3rd of the time at 78-80F.

 

The best I got was in the summer - 59.3 MPG. Haven't seen it that high since the temperature went down :/

 

300 mile round trip, Phoenix to Sahuarita, Arizona, 70 MPG, without added batteries, plug in conversion, just my own innovations, new spark plugs and Michellan Energy Saver LRR tires.

 

For all Prius owners, do not let anyone tell you "Don't do this or that" the Prius Platform is as good as it gets. I have only owned my used with 100, 000 miles 2005 Prius for 6 months, in that short amount of time, I added a Catalyst Cracker, Catalyst Injection, Anti Friction Lubricates, my own secret chemical formula for decreasing the time for gasoline to vaporize during fuel injection, new spark plugs and Mich Energy Saver tires. I am still going to eventually install the inline fuel, Electric Cracker and another Zero Emission/Double MPG, US and International Patent device. This is not an advertisement, you must find me through my consultant group and that is next to impossible, I intentionally, keep the public away from me, due to their "Unrealistic Expectations" about how to increase MPG and the real focus of a Prius was not MPG, it was to develop a SULEV, to prove that "Air Pollution reduction from Un Burned Fuel, can be accomplish, if you use Electricity to help carry the load, of moving human beings in the forward directions.
My best ever was for 30 minutes, got only one 5 min tracking at 75 MPG but all the rest was in the 95 MPG range, lots and lots of pulse and glide techniques.

 

mine resets everytime i fill up with gas on its own. the miles on the consumption screen that is. the odo does not reset unless i do it manually. but it seems it will go to 399 and reset or whenever i open the fuel door to refuel. i never reset my avg mpg but twice a year. once for summer and once for winter.

 

I've broken my own personal MPG record!
The last one was 605 [email protected] from 43 litres of fuel.
My new record is 628 [email protected] from 43 litres. And that's with driving much faster using hyper milling techniques like pulsing and gliding.
It's been over a year since I got my "Spaceship", and I'm still impressed with it as I was the first day I drove it! Comfortingly, I've also saved a tidy sum of money in commuting bills; spending on average £70 a month. With my old car, it would have been at least £210 a month or more

 

currently managing 49.5mpg. i replaced my original denso plugs with NGK iX iridium 4 days ago and since then my mileage has been coming up slowly. my miles traveled automatically resets after 399 miles so i am unable to show most like you guys that have 500+ miles. hopefully though it will continue to increase as i do mixed driving highway/city and mixed EV/blended.

 

My best was about 55mpg in my 2009. My overall average is 45.05mpg with 239,000.

 

Bought my prius last week, used. It's an 08, with 61,xxx miles. Dealer filled the tank for me. I got 52.8 miles my first tank. The flashing light came on so I immediately stopped and filled up. I was at 399 miles exactly. This made me assume that the tank was only holding 8 gallons or so. When I filled up, it took 9 gallons, so we'll see what this second tank gets me. I don't want to push the limits on running empty lol.

Btw I'm a food deliver guy. 85% of my driving is done in town under 40mph. The few instances that I did hit the highway I stayed under 60mph.

My '04 doesn't require any clearing of the tripmeter. Fill tank, start driving, in ~1 mile, tripmeter goes 0 miles traveled, & mpg goes to a range of 7mpg to 77 mpg over 1 mile, depending. (10 year mpg average when CA not putting ethanol in fuel, around 51.3 mpg. With ethanol in fuel, from around late Nov thru later Mar, around 48.5 mpg, + or -.

 

After 10 years driving my '04, I know that when the last fuel gage square starts flashing, I have over 3 gals of gas left. I have driven another 100 miles fearlessly ;-) A tip: NEVER let the gage even get to the last square if your wife or significant other is sitting next to you!

Driving across the Nullarbor the longest (90 mile) straight road in Western Australia 3.7 litres per 100 k or 63.57 US mpg
As you can see from the bars very flat and very little opportunity to pulse and glide I did a bit of stealth on the slight downhills
I had a tail wind and averaged about 75 kph as I am holidays. 2008 prius (104,000 kilometres ) new to me a week ago, only a radiator block, new oil but not synthetic and new transmission oil, plan to use AMS oil and put a set of Michelin XM1 195 x 65 x 15 which i brought second hand on the front and hoping someone can tell me where I can get a some wheel covers for the 15 inch rims. BTW does having a 60 profile on the back tyres and a 65 on the front alter the stability control system?

I have a 2007 Prius--now showing 164,000 miles. I live in Oregon, so our coldest weather is generally above freezing, and our warmest about 100. I definitely get better milage in warm weather (even running the A/C) than in colder. And despite what the dealer told me, I get much better milage on longer trips, especially using the cruise control. Trips in warm weather, probably avg is close to 50. In colder weather, trips about 47. Around town in stop and go, warmer weather--about 47, and in colder weather about 44. All in all, it is a damn fine car. I'm holding my breath on the hybrid batteries though....

 

443 fill-ups on my 2008. 133,000 miles, mostly a 36 to 45 mile daily high speed, argy-bargy commute on the Houston area freeways, including climbing one of the tall bridges over the ship channel twice a day. Many 400 mile weekend trips and a few summer vacations. A/C on all the time unless it is the "dead of winter" (December through February). No chances to hyper-mile but cruise control whenever possible. Lifetime average mpg using Fuely to record EVERY SINGLE FILL UP is 47.4. The car is incredible.
