A perfect example of why you should not let car magazine guys (who never have to be able to afford to buy or maintain a car) be your product planners. This thing has 'negative market share' written all over it.

Panamera S Hybrid 0 sold this month in the US, 107 sold this year in the US

Audi could sit next to this line in the monthly hybrid scorecard.

Sexy! Interesting how German sport cars are going toward hybrid/all-electric. Example: Porsche 918 hybrid...SO sexy. Or the MB SLS AMG electric drive...hubba hubba. Those are all extreme (and expensive) examples, but I think in the future we'll see tons more of these. I go go-karting fairly often and one of the places I like has all-electric go-karts. The difference between those and the gas ones is crazy! And no smell :)

Edit: I like the design of that Audi. Looks like a scion tc had a baby with an audi TT lol. I've always liked the TT and the tc. Sexy looking cars

It's the proven Le Mans technology slowly trickling down to us! Windshields, wipers, headlights, seat belts and disc brakes... now, hybrid technology (with Toyota and Audi going head to head).

I don't think this petrol hybrid with 14 kWh battery has much to do with LeMans Audi e-tron TDI. Yaris hybrid-R is completely different beast and a lot more like LeMans racing car.

Why does Europe produce so many plug-in hybrid in this top sports cars? Because of CO2 emissions, nothing else.

Absolutely, the audi Lemans car is a diesel flywheel hybrid. This Sport Quattro is a turbo gasoline v8 that it probably borrowed from the S6, perhaps with higher performance valving and turbo. It is mated with a large battery 14kwh allowing a great deal more hp to the wheels, but also the choice of all electric driving. The leMans car doesn't even have a traction battery, they aren't allowed in the rules.

Torque. It looks to be much more effective to add a battery and motors to go 4wd, than a lot of mechanical parts and a bigger ice.

This car is an also ran, first the porsche 918, then the much more affordable, but 3 cyclinder bmw i8. The 918 is sold out and limited production. For those willing to take a lesser car the i8 details are coming out, and will be built next year. Now this audi might be able to leverage some of that porsche knowledge now that they are both under the vw umbrella.

Sold out for america. Some are still available for europe. Unless you are on a track that i8 probably is as fun to drive although won't sound as good or be as exclusive. At less than 1/10th the price (guess) the i8 is in the relm of possibilities, but I would need anouther car to go to some neighborhoods. The McLaren, I would be afraid to park.

Here's the show car with details
Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R Concept Photos and Info – News – Car and Driver

They didn't really mention it, but that power is put in a super cap just like in the race car. I don't even know if there is a traction battery, but that 120hp is dumped to the rear wheels from a capacitor. Its a neat idea on how to make the hsd awd though. Car and driver completely agrees with you on never seeing these at dealerships. If it was a production car, you would think they would use a better platform than the yaris. Its a show car, that may get a few protypes built for racing.
Now the audi, they think they will sell some of those, maybe not a lot but some.
