All it needs now is a hitch in the bed for 5th wheel towing. I dub thee - Priichairo. Oh - and I still prefere the off road version:

They'll still get better MPG than Suburbans.

    The original picture?

Why would someone do that to a perfectly good Prius?

As many have already mentioned, the HSD system isn't designed to offer pick-up towing like torque. Got to protect those electric motors...

Also with an exposed bed? I think the risk of moisture would be a problem. That would be a park in the garage, never take out if there is a chance of rain vehicle. Unless the battery is very carefully protected against any moisture...and if it is? Then I worry about ventilation.

If it isn't photoshoped...I've got to give kudo's for the nerve to do it...I would never do it...

Not true ...the HSD tows just fine. That's why both the hihy and the Lexus
RX SUV's are rated for towing. Perhaps you meant the smaller/Prius HSD version?

I would guess that it wasn't a perfectly good Prius beforehand...

My guess based on absolutely nothing: Guy with Prius gets it damaged and totaled out by insurance somehow, hail, weird accident, something fell on it, but the roof and hatch got damaged. Instead of replacing the hatch, repairing the roof, etc., he just cuts it off and makes a bed. :)

That's what I'm going to hope for. I'm hoping it wasn't just someone going nuts and thinking, "Wooo, I feel like taking the saw to the Prius!" :p

+1 on moisture - I'd love to see this done up "properly" rather than a creatively ghetto conversion. Properly would include a sheet-metal bed with a sealed access panel to get to the HV battery and 12v battery. Battery ventilation should not be impaired.

That said, if someone got themselves a $5k salvage car, what do they have to lose?
