oh I see - then that may have to do with those frosty winters. There has to be some rationale for the difference.

Oh yeah. We're on the west coast, about 100 km's from the US border, very mild winters. Meanwhile, in the US prairie states...

There's little to no rational behind the oil change interval, LOL.

changing oil myself will not void the new car's warranty? do i need to present some proof in the future that i had indeed changed the oil?

:)Smart guy. Can't go wrong there and no one can dispute your rationale. Toyota wrote the book (owners manual) and they pay for warranty repairs. That good enough for me.

Yeah! Keep thinking that. Why do think Toyota has a oil consumption policy that allows them
to avoid covering repairs, if your vehicle is not using enough oil per 1K miles. I've done a lot
of oil consumption inspections for Toyota's extended warranty program. The 1.8L engine is
prone to carbonizing oil control rings from extended oil service intervals. After your warrnaty
has expired, you own it and Toyota won't give a rats as_ about your oil consumption problems.
If you plan on keeping your car for 100K miles, I suggest you adopt a better strategy about
    oil service intervals.

You should consider listing your location in your profile, it would avoid a certain amount of this kind of confusion.

:confused:As a short term (nine month) member here, I haven't read of any issues you speak about in your post. Not to say they don't exist. What's wrong with a consumer following the guidance in their vehicles owners manual? Overall, I can't imagine the average Prius engine is over stressed due to high speeds, towing, etc. Again, if Toyota recommends 10,000 mile oil change intervals, that's what I'll follow. I still feel comfortable with that.

Don't pollute and follow what the engineers at Toyota said you need to do, every 10,000 miles.

My last Toyota lasted 270,000 miles before I got rid of it. Changed oil every 7500 miles as Toyota recommended and had no problems.

Most automobile manufacturers recommend every 10,000 miles ( my BMW didn't need a change until 15000 ).

Why do you think more than the engineers at those companies?

Last time I checked it wasn't possible as an owner to enter data on the Canadian site.

Well! As a long time failure analysis inspector for Toyota Motor Corp., I have
You can do whatever you like with your car. Others may decide not to follow blindly.

:)If Toyota recommends 10,000 mile oil change intervals via the owners manual, that's what I'll follow. I'm not asking anyone to follow me blindly or otherwise. You add nothing to this post and lose credibility by criticizing and finding fault with someone who states they will follow the manufacturers recommended oil change schedule.

I'm not allowed to publish anything from my work. I can tell you, I have seen it often
It's not engine failures. It's oil consumption above 60K miles due to carbonized oil control rings,
like I stated in my original post. Please try to stay on the same page. It helps reduce confusion for
others and should help you follow along in future posts too :ROFLMAO:

While I actually agree with you on the oil ring problem in some Toyotas and I have the issue in my old Corolla, are you saying that you actually take the engine apart and inspect the rings yourself?
