    Magnetic Watches

Feb. 16, 2006 - More energy, vitality, focus, and less stress! All from wearing a watch?

The Philip Stein Teslar watch has only been on the market for about three years. But it got a big boost from Oprah Winfrey over the holidays, when the talk show host picked it as one of her "favorite things."
Oprah reportedly got the watch as a gift from Madonna. It has two faces, and comes in a variety of styles. Some are encrusted with diamonds. At Neiman Marcus in King of Prussia, Philip Stein Teslar watches sell for 600 to 2500 dollars. The one picked by Oprah is the runaway favorite.

Angela Parker/Neiman Marcus: "You cannot believe the excitement. We had an additional 50-60 women coming in, looking for this watch. It was unbelievable."
The company says what makes this timepiece truly unique is how it makes you feel. On the back are two Teslar chips, which emit a low-level electromagnetic signal 7 to 9 times per second.
Bryan Reeves/Philip Stein Teslar: "This signal pulses at the rate of the earth's own natural energy state. This is also the rate of your brain signals in a state of calm and relaxation, or when athletes are in states of high performance, otherwise known as the zone."
Research director Bryan Reeves says the signal can help people sleep better at night and function with an "energized calm" during the day. It's also supposed to protect wearers from "electromagnetic pollution" in our modern-day world.
With all our gadgets, tools, and toys we are surrounded, we have immersed ourselves in electro-magnetic energy that the body is not accustomed to.

But does it really work? We asked three people with very busy lives to wear the watch for 2 weeks, as the company suggests.

Merion Ingram is assistant manager of Osaka restaurant in Chestnut Hill and a published author.

Lizanne Magarity Pando is a mother of two and marketing director at the Flourtown auto dealership.

And Jeoffrey Wagg is the father of three young children and a school administrator at Episcopal Academy on the Main Line.

After a couple of days, Wagg felt no difference. Our other two testers thought maybe the watch was giving them a boost.

Lizanne Magarity Pando/Watch Tester: "I've noticed I have a little more energy. It was raining the last couple days and I didn't seem as draggy as I would have been."
Merion: "Sort of like plugging in an extension for creative hours."
Action News also asked scientists who specialize in human physiology and electromagnetic waves to look at research cited by Philip Stein Teslar to support the watch's claims. They say there's no solid evidence that energy from modern devices harms the body; and, they say the watch's signal is not capable of blocking out those energy waves.
Elizabeth Brooks, DPM/Rowan University: Dr. Brooks: "It is really saying it is doing several different things, and unfortunately I don't think any of the scientific documentation support that."
Dr. Elizabeth Brooks believes there's a "placebo effect" at work. Wearers want to believe the watch is doing something. The company clearly disagrees, and says its studies prove there is a "Teslar effect."
Reeves: "It's important to remember that nothing works for everybody, but the Teslar watch is doing what is doing."
So what did it do for our testers? After two weeks, Jeff Wagg is disappointed the watch hasn't helped lower his stress level during this busy time in the school year.
Meanwhile at Magarity Chevrolet, Lizanne has a more positive take, especially after she forgot to put the watch back on one day after showering.

"Found myself kind of sluggish, and my husband said, 'Hey, you're not wearing the watch.' I don't know if it was psychosomatic, but I definitely felt a difference."
But Merion Ingram is even more enthusiastic. He says wearing the watch helped him stay up later after work to write his current novel.
"I found myself able to accomplish more for longer periods. Waking up and feeling refreshed."

*sigh* And here I thought someone had figured out how to really make tachyon watches. I need the time travel capabilities.

    Bluejay...

What is it with you and this tachyon fetish? I thought you got beat up pretty good the last time you brought it up.

I usually don't get into humor at someone's expense but you left yourself wide open
    " EMF removal soap! "

Funniest thread we have ever had.

Thanks to Jack_06 for bumping it up again.

Gotta go back to my "tachyon shielded" room.
