I had spent most of the day riding/working on a 1946 Erie Caboose behind a GE 80 Tonner with 900 Hp out at the R&GV RR Museum... Pleasant day with many guests visiting the museum and riding trains. Came home and changed my clothes after this happened though. In the words of Bill Cosby, "first you say it, then you do it!"

Man, that would've been one heck of a scratch. Glad you're safe. Did anyone stop that guy?

Yep! The guy was probably texting or talking on the phone and just took the wrong lane after the Thruway Toll booth.... I did get a chance to find out just how nice the PiP handles though! As I came around the curve it appeared he was on the other side of the median and my brain didn't figure it out until it was almost too late.

I came very close... LOL! I think he figured it out about a 100 feet down the road. I have been checking the Rochester News for any headlines like, "Car gets nailed driving down wrong side of freeway."

Where is the permanent residence of your front view camera? I bought one when I first purchased my car last year, but couldn't find a permanent place for it because in the windshield it overheated in the summer.

It is right behind the rear view mirror. Hopefully up here in the North it won't overheat on me. Time will tell.

Exactly why I installed a dash cam last week... too many dip$hits on the roads nowadays.

As I was explaining to my 17yo daughter who's just starting to drive (we enrolled her in professional private lessons to start her off)- there's the rules of the road- and then there's what you have to do to stay safe!

Slow_RR, glad you were paying attention and avoided the HUA idiot. Now I have a question about mounting the dash cam behind the mirror. I have added the mirror with garage door controls to my base PiP, and am wondering if the signal will be blocked in any way by the dash cam. For now, I have it temporarily fastened to the leading edge of the passenger visor. I plan to do the same temporary mount behind the mirror to test it. I have the Blackvue 500 HD unit, and it sure does get hot. With it over on the visor, I can aim A/C vents up that way and it helps to cool it, but that won't work with it behind the mirror, unless I send the air through the defroster.

Thanks Roger! As for your question, I really have no idea if it would interfere with the garage opener... I wouldn't think it would, but someone who knows more about how the garage opener works will have to chime in on it. You might just want to have someone hold the car cam where you want to mount it and try the door opener to see what happens??? I tried to do a temporary mount in that place with mine but the rough surface of the black dots on the windshield up there kept the suction cup for adhering to it. I will get a photo of where I mounted the Cam as soon as I can.

  12. I bet your cam will capture a lot of pretty snow videos during the winter... :censored:

I have a mirror with garage door controls on my prius, and in it the radio signal comes out where the base of the mirror is glued to the glass; if you look at it from the outside you can see the transmitter.

Take a look at yours and see if you have something like that where the mirror is stuck to the glass. If so, I doubt any camera would interfere.

Garage doors work using Radio Frequency or RF, so no interference is expected if you put something insubstantial in front of it like a dashcam.

Thanks. Oh, and everyone please ignore the Date and time on the clip... I am still trying to figure out how to set it. According to the User Manual it says: "1. Cope the TIME.TXT from the disk and write the date and time. 2. While the DVR is in turn off state, connect it to the computer, choose the U-disk mode and cope the TIME.TXT file to the DVR and restart the DVR, the date and time will update." o_O Then it starts to get confusing!

Just a guess, but sounds like if you connect the DVR to the computer and use the USB-disk mode as opposed to the PTP or MTP mode you will see a file on the root of the volume called 'TIME.TXT', or possibly an example file will be on the software CD that came with the camera. If you open this in a text editor and change it to the current date following the format in the file, copy the edited version back to the DVR, and then boot up the DVR, it should update the time.

Certainly an odd way of doing it, though!

Isn't it great how much simpler life is now that we have computers? Oh there is no CD with the camera and if there was I can give a 95% chance it won't open except in a Windblows Computer... Later in the manual it does say that you can manually set the date and time in the main menu. Why would anyone do that when you can "Cope the TIME.TXT from the disk... It reminds me of my Model Railroad friends who will use any difficult route to do something because it means they can use the computer. I use a Digital Cab control System on my layout, but I control the route of the trains using a plain old toggle switches on the fascia board of the layout. The train needs to go to a different track, I reach out and throw the toggle. The switch is thrown. I have a friend who instead uses his DCC throttle to throw the turnout. He has to type in a code to go from throttle to turnouts on his cab, then he types in the number of the turnout he wants to throw, then decides which way (North or South) to throw it, pushes the correct button, then has to push exit and then go back to the throttle by pushing another button. See, much easier than just reaching out and throwing a small switch on the fascia....

Thanks for the info. I was sort of thinking along those lines, and I know that sometimes I open the garage door with the car in the street opposite the garage, so it wouldn't need a straight on line of sight to work. One thing is that there appears to be a small sensor or something on the back of the mirror, and I don't know what that's used for. It's an OEM Homelink auto-dimming mirror from Mito Corp. May be that the sensor is for some system I don't have with this car.

Or, it could be the light sensor for your auto dimming mirror? ;)
