I purchased a set of Toyota 17" wheels and am debating on what tire to install. I'm just not a fan of the plastic hub caps and I think the car looks much better with a 17" wheel and tire. Also, several people I spoke to say the 17" wheel/tire is much better handling in high cross winds.

I've narrowed the size down to either the 215/45-17 or the 205/50-17. The 215/45 is the OEM size for the Prius Plus and the CT200H. However, it's .4" smaller in Dia and 1.2" smaller in circumference than the OEM 195/65-15. Several folks I spoken to are using the 205/50-17 tire as it is very close (.1" larger) to the 195/65 OEM size.

There are several new manufacturers offering LRR (Low Rolling Resistance) tires in these sizes. The Pirelli P7 and the Michelin Primacy have great reviews. There is also the Yokohama and the Continental and some folks are very happy with them.

I would be very interested in what you folks are using and if your happy with them? Also, what is your speedometer error?

Got Yokohama AVID Ascends in 205/50. That's the way to go for sure... The diameter, and every other measurement is almost identical as the 195 stock 15s. Because of this, the speedometer and odometer read the same as with the 195s. There is a MPG hit for sure, which is mostly equally attributed to your driving style, not just the tire type. With that said, I average a conservative (measured) 47-49 MPG, though the odometer indicates higher. Aesthetically, the 205/50 17 also close the fender gap, though a nice set of TRD springs wouldn't hurt either.

Others also swear by the Bridgestone Ecopias, but at that point it's a matter of preference. I got mine for $550, and a $60 rebate on top.

how about 16" wheels. these will improve the look and keep the comfort. may cost less and not reduce the MPG
