After 50k miles the only problem is some kid shot my tail light with a BB gun it put a small hole in the lens, besides that this car is great, excellent mileage and performance

Sweet, I'm coming up on 8k myself, glad to hear!

Sorry to hear about the kid with the BB gun though...

50k in a year and a half... that's impressive. I am rolling over 17k this week after only 8 months of driving. It's rare to find someone that drives more than me.

I am a 73 year old retired USAF pilot. I have seen much of the world and have little desire for traveling. I own a 2012 Prius C 2 moonglow. After 13 months I only have 1,965 on the odometer. The reason for my post is that it is a good feeling to know the Prius C can go 50,000 miles with no major maintenance problems. I love my little car and feel at the rate I put miles on the odometer, I have many years of good trouble free miles ahead of me. I keep my car well protected in a garage when not in use. I think keeping it out of the cold, heat and rain will extend its trouble free life!

Did you ever catch the kid who shot your car up with the bb gun?

  7. The SUV I traded in was a problem waiting to happen every few months... like you I didn't travel that much, and it didn't even make it to 50,000 miles before I said, "GTFO." I have no regrets with the trade.
Glad to hear that you went 50,000 miles with no problems, this is reassuring for me.

SrA with a C here and love it too! Very comforting to know that our cars will go the extra miles

    Phil,

Just curious, with such low mileage, do you still take the C in for it's free service every six months? And if so, does the dealer still perform all the necessary work? If i remember correctly, the five free services are a "use it or lose it" deal.
    Thanks.

Isn't it every 5k miles, vs every 6 months? I've been into service already and I've owned it less than 5 months.

Alizad: To answer your question, I called my TOYOTA dealership and explained my low mileage and how it would affect my 2 year or 20,000 mile free service. The dealer said to wait until I have 4,000 miles or 23 months. Then bring the Prius C in for an oil change, tire rotation and fluids check. I am afraid to let anyone service my car. It is working so good I am worried someone will change things for the worst. On my last fill-up I have been averaging almost 70 MPG! I think I am really learning how to drive it for it's maximum MPG.

I also do not trust the dealer with my car.:( I know that this car is working great, all it would take to change my car forever is plug in to the computer and download service upgrades that are intended to fix problems that some of the cars may be having. I think this is just part of how they evaluate your car 1) plug it in check the codes 2)download upgrades. For an example our 2012 camry was getting a solid 45 mpg at the 10k service after that we are at 42ish mpg. the tires are at same pressure and now we have put on over 25k we never get 45 out of a tank. So I think they did somthing that makes the car get a little less mpg and makes the battery last longer and that makes it less likely to fail in 100k thus saving toyota som $

I am going to change my own oil and check my own fluids. :D I will take my car to the dealer if it has a problem.

Kudos to the original poster here. I too have hit the 50,000+ mark (not my first year anniversary though) and have had NO problems to date. I didn't take advantage of the FREE services, so my C2 has not been back to the selling dealer. Put a solid 51,000 miles on the OEM tires and will be changing them out today.

Good to hear from 2 with 50 plus. I have crossed over 20,000. Let dealer change oil twice and have it in writing I get another at 30,000. Only problem with my dealer is they keep letting air out of my tires.

Could this be a weather change? Did you get the service done just as the cold weather came through? Cold weather will drop mpgs.

Good question, I dont remember what the weather was. we bought the car in april so it may have been going into winter. but the mpg have always been harder to get.?? even this summer. before I could often get the mpg to 99 on some of my short trips. now that almost never happens. :( I wonder if they may be using a thicker oil, because that would have been the 10k service. what ever the reason it would be impossible for me to know. but because it seems to have changed right after that service makes me think it is related to that service. I remember asking my wife if they used the 2-20 instead of 0-20. she called and they said they used 0-20. I will be doing an oil change in a couple of months. I will do it myself and then this should answer this question for me. the oil change will be winter but I should see a change if that was the problem.

I think it is probably an adjustment or software upgrade that makes things easier on the hybrid system. the car is still performing within spec for epa mpg. so how could anyone really complain?:cautious:
