Is it not a major defect of the Model One audio system that navigation audio from a smartphone is inaudible unless the audio system is turned on and set to MEDIA? Isn't there something in the Bluetooth specification that can identify the audio stream as "urgent," and therefore enabling the audio to interrupt other input such as radio and CD?

Nothing that wouldn't be a violation of Bluetooth specification. Some phone makers get "creative" and spoof a phone call to do this...which really is a spec violation but, yeah, Bluetooth is...Bluetooth. So, this isn't a defect.

Navigation prompts are usually so brief that I don't think the system would be fast enough to switch sources and still play you the direction before it was over. Maybe if BT could always be on and overlay another source. What I do is use my iPhone as a GPS and also stream music from it through BT. It correctly reduces the playback volume to give directions when needed.

Thanks for the great responses. Sounds like "spoofing a phone call" might be a great thing to add to Android and/or IOS as a configurable option. :)
