You really aren't so far from Foreign Affairs Auto in West Palm. You could talk to Jonathan. They are the dealership that installs the Hymotion kits for the Florida rebate.

I had them install the kit, and the mechanic did a fine job. They installed another kit on another Prius and showed that they have the ability to think when they figured out how to put the plug for the kit by the front grille. I have not had them do any other mechanical or diagnostic work for me, and I think their rates are somewhat high, but it could still be worth it to have somebody competent doing this work. It can definitely be dangerous working with the HV battery.

I still wonder if it isn't just corrosion, as others mentioned, especially given the location close to the ocean. If that's it, the guys there will be able to quickly clean everything up and it might not cost a fortune. Otherwise, get a known good used battery pack either yourself or let Jonathan get one, and have them install it. Also, it probably is possible to just swap the battery pack yourself, you can check Hobbit's site (a well-known and highly respected Prius expert): Hobbit's techie-rants .

Please provide an update on this, OP. I know it's 2.5 years old but your experience will greatly help others (e.g. me) who are now faced with this issue. Thanks.
