Thanks for the report...you know if the battery is hot during hot weather etc, it can be better to park the car with a few bars down from total green as batt can heat up when parked.

Your Prius should do well...I need to make a pilgrimage back to the Adirondacks to see how the small lakes are doing with the acid rain. This old canoe had one of its first journeys up there probably 1979 or 1980.

Odd coincidence? I'm the one who has the 2006 Prius (145,000 miles), who's battery failed last week and got it replaced under warranty at the dealer. Well......my roommate has a 2007 Prius with 125,000 miles. His triangle warning light came on this past Friday and noticed the SOC was low. He brought it to the dealer this weekend, and what did they determine? The hybrid battery was failing! He's getting it replaced today, all under warranty.

My roommate and I were joking...did our Prius' talk to each other?? Just seemed very weird to us.....

Gee I hope my batt lasts longer. What kind of garage or overnight storage do you have? Back east we get the cooler weather starting now here we have 40F lows. Keeps our PHEV batts cool, even in the garage.

I've always parked my car outdoors, never garaged. I believe my roommate has also. But being in Southern California, we don't get cold temps...maybe the warmer temps and harder driving (we've both averaged about 20k/year) has attributed to the shorter life?

Still a very odd coincidence...especially since I haven't really heard of anyone who's had their hybrid battery fail. Now I know me ('06 145k), my roommate ('07 125k), and my dad ('05 220k)!

My 2009 was bought new. Has 37000 miles now. Driven daily in the Midwest. Hot summers cold winters. Only thing I have done is oil changes and a 12 v battery.

Depends on your state, CARB states covered up to 150,000 miles and 10 yrs, vs. non-CARB 100,000 mile and 8-yrs.

The other question I probably should have asked in the survey is how many failed batteries were covered under warranty? But any failure under 100,000 miles would probably be covered, and between 100,000 and 150,000 miles anyone living in CARB state should be covered, and I am guessing that could be 50% of Prii...not sure.

From what I've noticed, the car seems to know this. The only time I see the green bars are when returning home early in the morning, with outside air temps at their coolest. I also see it a bit more at other times during the winter months.

My 2005 still has the original HV battery, running a Optima 12V, still seeing 60+ MPG at 107,000 miles or so.

I'm planning on getting rear shocks with the next set of tires but I'm not planning on replacing either style battery in this car for years to come.

I was indeed. The "lies" part comes in to play when the sales people consistently tell people that these batts never fail, that they have never heard of failing batts and that the only way they fail is b/c of a major accident.

2004 totaled at about 295,500 miles. Was planning to have the battery checked out and have any weak cells replaced this fall as preventive maintenance. Planned to try for 400,000.

Everything still works! But bent, over $7,000 estimate from a reputable shop. Oh, well ...

94800 mi on an '05 that's now a few months outside the 8-year non-CARB warranty. The increased discussions of HV batt failure around here now have me concerned. The car is behaving normally, but after having recently replaced the ABS accumulator/pump assembly my wallet would like it very much if the traction battery lasted another 100k.

Good luck WR the thing is battery failure relates to miles but also age so 2005 you're getting into the realm of possibility.
