Good morning, I am on morning 2 of being a new (used) 2010 Prius owner and I'm thrilled already. 100 miles in 2 days and averaging 48.2 mpg. I purchased a certified 7/100,000 miles Prius III with 47K on it. My questions is about warranties...I declined the warranty from the dealer offering upgraded platinum coverage because I saw a thread on here about Troy Detrich and Doug of Toyota of Danville offering warranties at better prices than the dealer. I sent Troy and email (no response yet) but are theses guys still able to sell the Toyota warranties at a better cost? One site said "Toyota shut Doug down." So I was wondering is anyone had any current info or suggestions. Thank you.

You were wise to eschew the factory warranty from the stealer.
Whether or not the discounted OEM warranty is a "good deal" or not depends on a great many things.
I rather think not, but there are those (e.g. Clark Howard) that thinks sometimes an OEM warranty can be a worthwhile investment.
    That's six-five and pickem.

You are also very wise to consider the warranty as a straight purchase, thereby not paying interest on it or adding it's cost to the debt (if any) that you attached to the G3 when (if) you took out a loan for the car.
All of the OEMs do things a little bit differently. If you got a CPO (certified pre-owned) vehicle, and it didn't come with anything but the balance of the OEM warranty, then what the heck does CPO mean in this case?
What exactly did they certified other than it's pre-owned?

You're smart for buying the G3 used, and your dealership probably has some records on this car from the day it was sold to it's first customer. You're going to have to decide whether or not you trust this (or another) dealership to do maintenance on your car, which is altogether different than repair work.
If you cannot (or don't want to) do the maintenance yourself, then you may want to consider getting the warranty and enjoying the benefit of just not worrying about it.
If that's the case, I would still check into your car's pedigree as well as the dealership's. There are a LOT of tales in this forum of people paying for unneeded maintenance and/or repair because they're unfamiliar with the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual.

    It's your call.
If you don't want to be bothered, and your dealership is somewhere close to being honest, then you're probably going to be OK.
    Life is short!

Enjoy the car and BEST of luck to you!

You were wise to eschew the factory warranty from the stealer. Thanks, the chat room folks advised me.

You are also very wise to consider the warranty as a straight purchase, thereby not paying interest on it or adding it's cost to the debt (if any) that you attached to the G3 when (if) you took out a loan for the car. I will pay it all at once like you recommend. I would like it to be less than the dealer wanted, though.
All of the OEMs do things a little bit differently. If you got a CPO (certified pre-owned) vehicle, and it didn't come with anything but the balance of the OEM warranty, then what the heck does CPO mean in this case?
What exactly did they certified other than it's pre-owned? In the description of the different warranties...which I could take a photo and post....it shows what is covered under the CPO warranty in black, and what is excluded in red. I said NO right from the get-go at the dealer...then I read all the "stuff" in red that isn't covered under the CPO...like a HUGE section under HYBRID. Then, I got a little nervous.

You're smart for buying the G3 used, and your dealership probably has some records on this car from the day it was sold to it's first customer. I do. I registered the car under the toyotaownersonline, and saw the vehicle maintenance history...only one event that I question...and I'll have to get an answer when I take it back in...probably from service, sales guy not as knowledgeable. You're going to have to decide whether or not you trust this (or another) dealership to do maintenance on your car, which is altogether different than repair work.
If you cannot (or don't want to) do the maintenance yourself, then you may want to consider getting the warranty and enjoying the benefit of just not worrying about it.That's where my initial question came in...are these people Doug and/or Jerry able to sell the warranties still? Just got off the phone with Jerry Johnson. So pleasant and helpful, but cannot help me because my car has 47K (over the 3yr/36,000 miles) Boo.
If that's the case, I would still check into your car's pedigree as well as the dealership's. There are a LOT of tales in this forum of people paying for unneeded maintenance and/or repair because they're unfamiliar with the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual.

Life is short! Certainly is. Thank you again.

Depending on where you live.....and I'd keep that obfuscated BTW......the hybrid components might already be covered if you live in a CARB state.
You'll have to noodle that out for yourself, but it's not hard.

    Good Luck!

As you discovered, the car is not eligible for Toyota's extended warranty because that window closed at 36000 miles. IMO, if you are concerned about he hybrid components the extended warranty wasn't going to do much if anything for you.
