    In a non hybrid transmission when in neutral there's much less line pressure in the trans. It will extend the life of the trans. Its easier on the trans then sitting in gear with your foot on the brake.

    Too bad about the Quest. I love Nissan. I almost bought a Quest. Rented one for a week and really liked it.

    I to will corroborate edthefox's statement about cleaning the brakes in neutral. Wet weather causes the rotors to surface rust which greatly increases their friction. Regular cars do this too, but you don't notice it because you're going faster than 5 miles per hour when you hit the brakes first time.

    Yes, when in doubt, get the brake system checked out by a certified Tech and Repair Facility. Let them know exactly what you are experiencing. Have the service writer go with you on a road test to re-created any driveablility symptom you are experiencing.

    Some other thoughts below;
    The ABS (Antilock Brake System) can also be a cause of alarm for many during a low speed or panic stop when roads are wet or slippery. Snow, Ice, loose gravel, fallen leaves or even oil deposits on the road can also cause over active ABS/TCS activation. Also if the tires are worn or not of a good traction design/rating can cause more activation of ABS and even TCS (traction control systems).

    Try the simple, free fix first. This sounds like our classic clean-the-rust-off-the-brake-pads maintenance/annoyance. Get your Prius up to 30 MPH and shift to neutral, apply the brakes and repeat several times. If the problem isn't fixed, THEN go spend money ($200 for new brakes) at the dealer or a local brake shop.
