    What aftermarket head unit?
And is that a JBL or non-JBL system?

I've got a JVC KD-DV5100 DVD player that has AM/FM (redundant) and is Sirius ready running through a SoundGate VIDTOY01 adapter. If I put in video DVD the movie starts playing. If I put in a music CD or DVD with Mp3's burned on it, a track list is displayed.

This is only displayed if the MAP function is active. Turn off the head unit and the NAV reappears. It's not like the ViewTech professes to be ie. using the SAT input leaving the NAV in an always functional mode.

    Hope that helps...

I have the Pioneer AVIC N-2. The MFG works, but i keep it "OFF" and only turn it on if i want to check avg mpg, etc. When I press the "AUDIO" button i see it as if the radio was OFF (the nice little music note background).

One cool thing that i lost was the annoying beep that you get everytime you press a button. See my link for pictures, there's also a "hack" to getting the MFG to work with aftermarket headunits BECAUSE the climate control is linked to the stock headunit (meaning that if you didn't do the "hack" you wouldn't be able to use the climate control).

The 'hack' isn't specifically for the AC, but because IEBus (AVC) specs require a termination resistor on the network. The termination resistor is normally located on the head unit, so if you eliminate the HU, you also eliminated the terminator, so you have to add one. Many bus/network systems need terminators.

So just to clarify -- you can remove the stock stereo without problems? I want to put in a double-DIN Alpine head unit and the only way to do that it seems is to ditch the stock unit.
