I received my NAV kit about a week ago. Totally out of the blue, I mean, I ordered it back in February or March of '05. I inquired about the status of the order a couple times, never heard anything back. Then, many many months later, boom, it shows up in my mailbox. OK, fine, whatever. I installed it today and guess what - doesn't work. The NAV system reset itself as expected, but the device did not advance me past the "I Agree" screen, nor did it enable full use of the DEST screen while in motion. It's as if the device had never been installed.

I removed the device, checked for bent pins, etc, reinstalled it, and same thing. I emailed Coastal Tech, so we'll see what happens.

At the time I placed this order, I had also ordered the auto door lock kit. That arrived a couple months ago, and it's sitting in my inbox. I've been putting that one off because you have to partially disassemble the dash to put that one in. But now my confidence in Coastal Tech is definitely shaken - I had to wait 10-11 months for a surprise shipment of a device that doesn't even do what it's supposed to do?

Here's a photo. Not too impressive-looking - just a couple connectors. The "brains" are a PCB board covered in heat-shrink tubing. I can make out the outline of a 14-16 pin DIP IC and a couple small can capacitors.

really easy to install, seems to be working great.
its a little annoying, i thought it would just disable the screen, but instead it waits for the screen and clicks the button for you.
same with the destination screen, it doesnt override it until you click on destination, then it goes through a series of about 5 clicks to disable it.
    but then it works great.

Actually I don't mind that with the "I Agree" screen as that way you can say you saw that screen (in the demo, Dave refers to that part as an "automatic button pusher"). What's interesting is that if you watch the video demo of the kit, the DEST is ghosted for a second or so and then is active. You don't see all the screens like you do with the kit (or doing the override trick). That doesn't really bother me either, just different than expected.

After using the Nav Kit enhancement, I must say I was shocked at what the device actually does.

If you haven't seen it yet, when you press the Dest button, it does the following:

    1. The device presses the AGREE button for you,
    2. Presses the menu button
    3. Presses the volume button
    4. Presses the upper left, then lower left, then upper left, then lower left of the screen
    5. Presses the Override button and holds it until it beeps
    6. Presses back 2-3 times
    7. Presses the Dest button for you once again.

So it basically acts like a keystroke macro (i.e. Lotus 1-2-3)...

I honestly cannot believe I spend over $80 for this thing.

I had expected that it would completely override the need for the "AGREE" and allow the user to use the nav system without restrictions, without going through the manual override like I do each time anyway.

I'd like to find out of the Bluetooth enhancement requires the NAV Kit installed, if not, I think I might return this to Coastal

Yes - according to Coastal, the Bluetooth enhancement requires the NAV kit. They have been holding off on sending the complete kit to those who ordered both.

Its the Bluetooth component I really want at this point since the NAV workaround works just fine for me.

I just got a notice from UPS that my NAV kit with Bluetooth has been shipped, and will arrive in a couple of days. This is the same kit I ordered back in March, almost a full year ago (in fairness, I added the bluetooth functionality to the order a couple of months later).

All I can say is "Woo fricking hoo! It's about time!".

Are they offering the Bluetooth separately? I think it is no longer on the site. Let us know if it is one unit or two.

My understanding is the basic NAV module is required for the Bluetooth add-on.

I got my UPS notice as well.

got mine last friday and installed it very easily. easier than the instructions led me to believe, too!

haven't tried the "use it with the car in motion" part of the NAV, but the automatic button press for "I Agree" is already a delight.

i had one glitch... CoastalTech seemed to pick up my old CA address to ship the unit to, despite my filling in the order with my new NC address (i'm darned sure, anyway.. maybe CRS is setting in... ), and there was NO easy way to clue in UPS where the right delivery address was to be.

took an extra week or more for delivery, but it made it! so far, i'm a happy camper...

see my recent post on the initial install of the NAV mod. was really easy for me.

i put the auto-door-lock in months ago, and from my personal experience, the directions for installation were very good, and not as scary in real life as i had imagined. i'd put it off out of ages-old fear of what happens when you try to take a dashboard apart, but that part of the '04 Prius' dash, at least, comes apart quite easily.

i only goofed once, hooking one wire to the wrong colored wire in the car's harness, i think, so it didn't work the first time..... giving me even MORE experience in taking the dash apart and putting it together again... , but when i got the wires right, it worked fine.

    i'll vouch for it, imnsho.

I have searched everywhere and tried to contact Coastaletech, but still can not find if/when the NAV/Bluetooth kit will be available for an 06 model. Anyone know?

Also interested in the video input kit as well, but heard that the 06 is now digital and can not use the kit on Coastaletech's site as well...

I am sure that both are probably in a thread somewhere, but I can not find it!

We received it last week. It was simple to install but it isn't working but it isn't working. I am going to have to contact Coastal to discuss.

I think since the 06 Prius cannot use the NAV override (hitting 4 places on the screen), I think that is why the NAV kit from Coastaletech is not being sold for the 06, as they have to re-think the module.

Anyone know whether we can configure this Coastal Nav kit to just do the I agree part? I find it quite annoying that it has about 10 seconds delay after pressing the DEST button (once per trip) before you can select your destination, especially since I already have one of the speed sensor solutions to the Nav lockouts.

The following has been posted on Coastal's Home page:

    Navigation Enhancement Kit Update 2.28.06

We have finished the initial shipments of the Navigation Enhancement Kits for those customers who had asked to be on the preorder list. If you were on the list, but still have not received your kit, your information may have changed making us unable to complete the transaction or ship to your current location. If you would still like your preorder filled, please resend your information on our order form and let us know in the comments section that this is an update to your previous preorder. We have kits in stock to get your order out quickly.

Navigation Enhancement Kit W/ Bluetooth Option Update 2.28.06

We have finished the initial shipments of the Navigation Enhancement Kits W/ Bluetooth Option for those customers who had asked to be on the preorder list too. Again, if you were on a list for this product initial offering and have not received your kit or a UPS email letting you know it is on the way, please resend your information on the order form with your updated information and note that this is an update in the comments section. We have kits in stock to get your order out quickly.

Although we have not offered the navigation kits for other model cars, many have ordered the Navigation Enhancement Kits for applications other than the 2004-2005 Toyota Prius. These kits are not compatible with the 2006 Prius and select other 2006-2007 Toyota and Lexus vehicles. If your Toyota or Lexus has a screen which tilts down, the navigation kit is not designed for your vehicle and cannot be plugged in.

Got my Coastaletech NAV kit with Bluetooth yesterday -- which plugs in to connections behind the MFD rather than under the seat.

Honestly, I'm a bit apprehensive at pulling the dash apart, but the instructions seem good/thorough step by step, and I am looking forward to getting in.

I am planning to wait however until it warms up a bit (now averaging around 20 degrees) and I'm thinking that the plastic clip-ons will flex better (be more forgiving?) in warmer weather. Plus, I've got my Jelly Bellies as a treat!
