I changed the oil. Then I needed to reset the maintenance light. I followed the owners manual directions, which worked and I saw the 00000000 in the odometer. Now all the warning lights are on and the car won't start. I suspect it's related to the order or timing of pushing the start button but I'm afraid to try too many times. Does anyone have any idea what this is?
    Thanks in advance and HELP

Has nothing to do with the maintenance reminder. Make sure it's in park and your foot is on the brake.

When you say it won't start, are you saying you are not seeing "Ready Mode"? Or are you saying it is in "Ready Mode" but the ICE won't fire up?

    Please clarify.

Wow, that was fast! Thanks but I am good now. I went back out and put my foot on the brake and it started, duhhhh. I spooked myself and wasn't thinking. This Prius is just new to me and I haven't gotten used to it but I love it. Now I just need to find a local mechanic that I can trust that knows about the car so I'm not stuck with the dealer. :)

Just for grins, how much oil did you add?

Glad to hear you figured it out. Please post back on the amount of oil.

4 quarts. Is that OK? I heard it takes a little over that so I thought I'd put that in, check it and add if necessary

Sorry to say this, four quarts is TOO much. If you pull the dipstick you will find that the oil is over the top of the top mark. If you overfill the Prius, you run the risk of oil contaminating the MAF and also building up in the intake manifold which will contribute to ICE problems down the road (rough running - no starts etc.) It is best to keep the oil level below the top dimple and way above the bottom dimple of the dipstick.

3.5 quarts is sufficient when doing the oil change and the filter.

If you only put in four quarts, you will be Ok this time, but in the future limit yourself to 3.5 quarts with the change. From the top dimple to the bottom dimple on the dipstick is 1.6 quarts. (3.9 quarts is MAX with a filter change)

FWIW, most here on PC recommend synthetic oil in the Gen II Prius (your car). I too agree with that.

Also, when changing the oil it is suggested to replace the aluminum crush washer on the drain plug and also to torque the plug to 27 foot pounds. Some here on PC have installed a fumoto valve. Don't have info on the valve, but have seen it mentioned here on PC. The oil filter is properly tightened when the gasket touches the base of the engine, then tightened 3/4 turn.

You might want to update your avatar with your location. This will help other's in giving you correct info as UK Prius vs American Prius are different etc. etc.

Best of luck to you and enjoy your new to you Prius.

Two tips I learned from others on here:

    1) If you will be doing your own oil changes, install a fumoto valve. Saves lots of time, frustration, mess and fuss:
    Never strip a plug again.
Never drop plug in pan of hot oil.
Easy to drain off overfill or grab a sample.
    No wrench needed.

    2) removing the air filter box cover makes it easier to pour oil into the engine (of course using a funnel -- even a cut-down 16 oz water bottle helps too).

I get no benefit, commission, or even acknowledgement from fumoto. There are many sites to order one from...here's the place I have been ordering from and they are like the original US distributor....if you poke around the web, you should be able to find a discount code also.
