    65% HV miles would mean 10,443 miles on 183.29 gallons. This means 57 MPG for gas miles and you were able to displace 34% of the miles with electricity.

    Three ways of saving gas at play here.

    1) Replacing with electricity
    2) More efficient gas engine
    3) EV miles eliminating inefficient gas miles (short trips - engine warm up)

    I have not had to pay for any electicity, solar panels at home, free ChargePoint stations and I'm able to charge at work without any costs.

    Is 55 mpg for your 2007 calculative or overhead display? I can't seem to get near there consistently...My average is creeping to 49 mpg with 40k miles.

    I was wondering the same thing. Impressive either way for a Gen II.

    I also wonder what the OP could achieve in a regular Gen III. 60mpg or .058cents/mile? That would close the cost per mile difference to approx. .02 cents s0 the break even ($5,000ish) would be in the 250,000 mile range. He needs to get that EV ratio up.

    The 2007 mpg was from actual tank fills. Just now having divided the miles/gallons I believe I made an error, the correct mpg should have been 53.34. The 2012 PIP mpg was also not correct based on dividing the miles/gallons and should have been 87.65. Will have to check my spreadsheet to determine the discrepancy.

    I have a round trip 258 mile highway commute to work, this is what kills my EV/HV ratio. I commute once a week, not daily.

    While at home I can charge at the local ChargePoint stations. I usually drive approximately 100 miles while I'm home doing short trips, these are all EV only miles.

    GEN II (I had one for 2 years) was accurate on the display. It was not biased at all like the Gen III. My calculated and FSD for individual tanks was within 2% +- not like the current Gen III. And overall mpg was even closer to calculated.

    Toyota screwed this up (most likely on purpose). I must add I was not doing 55mpg for yearly average mine was 49 over the almost full 2 years I had the Gen II (which I got new).

    Economics aside, these 100 miles per week short local trips all EV only miles are the big advantage of the PIP over the regular.
    The 258 miles highway commute once a week gives PIP advantage over other plug-ins like the Volt.
    PIP is the car for you, even with 65% HV miles.
