WeatherTech or HuskyLiner Mats?

By "factory retention hooks" do you mean the two holes with the twist style things that secure the mat? Just want to be sure before I omit them as a possibility.

 

I have Weathertech liners in the front of my Prius V. There is a cutout around the fuel filler door release and there is no raised lip there, so the collected water runs out onto the carpet.

Yes that is what I mean. Its kinda a catch 22 though, the Weathertech's have the holes, but then whats the point of the mat catching everything if it just runs down those holes when you hit the gas?
The Husky Liner doesnt move much, its always the same amount, it moves just enough that you can see the holes for the hooks, never any more. I havent really messed with it to see if I could bend it some or do something else to stop it from moving at all.

They stay put, have no holes for liquid to leak through, they're easy to clean with the garden hose and have high enough sides to keep snow inside the liner- no spillover onto the carpet.

My only minor gripe is the rear area cargo mat is a bit slippery- heavy items like computers, etc... tend to slide around back there if not secured.

The driver side does creep up a bit. But, it hasn't been much of a problem for me. When I do notice it, it's about an inch or so and I just pull it back into place.

 

this liners have a smooth surface in the bottom? or have a sort of a tread?

 

The husky liners have sharp little grippers/spikes to keep them from sliding around.

 

Some people have said that the melted snow runs into the 2 retention hook holes in the WeatherTech mats. Is this your experience, or are there raised edges around the holes?

There are raised edges around the holes. I don't see the issue with having the holes since they are still protecting your floors in a far superior way to stock mats...but then again I live in California where we don't get real snow. I love weathertech mats. Ordered them first week of owning Prius because of great experience with them in my Cruiser. The only complaint is that the Prius is a recessed floorboard/raised rocker panel which shapes the liners like a trough - so unlike my Cruiser, they don't self-drain out the side of the car. Other than that, they are great!

 

Well it appears to be almost 50/50 on the board about which to get...

I chose the weather tech digital laser cut or whatever the heck they are called, only because they were the (only) and first heavy duty ones I saw in the Priuschat store. And the Priuschat store had the best price too, cheaper than amazon or ebay. Score!

Either way, once I get them (I just ordered them) I will give my feedback too, for future readers of this thread.

 

Has anyone noticed if these liners/mats have a strong smell?
If so, is there a difference between brands?
I've been thinking about getting them, but if they make the car smell like a tire store I won't be able to tolerate that.

I have the Weathertech and don't/didn't notice any strong odor. They do have some slight rubber smell to them, but it faded very quickly. The packaging smelled a lot worse than the mats. If you get them, wash them well and let them sit in the sun to dry.

 

As far as "liners" go, WeatherTech makes a great product. They hold the snow, mud and water quite well and hose off or scrub easily. I have them in all of my cars including of course my Prius.

 

I have the Weathertech in the Highlander and the Husky in the Prius. What I don't like in the Weathertech is the fact that they don't go high enough behind the accelerator. The water can drip between the liner and the carpet. This is why I choose the Husky. Really satisfied. They don't move even if there is no holes for the retainers.
I never saw the Weathertech in the Prius and the Husky in the Highlander...

 

I'm really liking the weathertech floor liners. I bought the front and back from priuschat shop, cheapest price around. The front passenger slips some, drive doesn't at all. They all seem to have pretty full coverage. *i have never seen the husky mats in person*

So, now that a few more months have passed, how are you all liking your weathertech/husky liners? I'm debating which one to get, though I'm leaning towards the weathertech ones. I live in Wisconsin, so lots of snow/salt in the wintertime.

 

I have the 2011 Husky liners front and back. 60K miles later I still love them. I like the high rim around the edges.
I did have to use a diagonal cutter( dikes) to cut the sharp tips of the pegs that grip the carpet on the bottom of the liners. They are sharp and really cut your skin if you are not careful.

Be sure to cut the pins flat on the area behind the drivers dead peddle. I did not and my foot rest/pedal is all chewed up from the sharpness of the little spikes.

One other item to notice is that the gas door lever has space between the liner that allows dirt and leaves to get trapped around it but never water.
