Read this is you're thinking about an extended warranty

This may already be up on this blog, but I didn't find it easily when I searched so I'm posting it now for folks who are buying certified or used GEN IIs from Toyota dealers.

Toyota Financial Services offers not only extended warranties for new Prius if purchased before the 36months/36Kmiles new car one expires but also offers them to buyers of certified used Prius. And if you buy a used Prius from a Toyota dealer there are extended warranties available as long as the car has less then 125K miles, is at least a 2005 or newer model and it you buy it when you buy the car.

However, we can no longer shop around for the best deal. We can now only buy a TFS warranty from a dealer in our home state.

Follow up. I talked to TFS today and was told the extended warranty is point of sale only so that I can't buy a warranty from another dealer here in NM. I'm still waiting to hear from the dealer in Santa Fe.
The operator could not give me any information on the prices of the warranties. "It's up to the Dealer!"

 

Followup to the follow up.
Looking around I found a thread on toyotanation. The guy to go to is
Jerry Johnson is at Midwest Toyota in Hutchinson, Ks. Phone # is 800 530 5789, his email is [email protected]. He is a great perosn to work with.
He can still do the TFS extended warranties at great cost as the Toyota prohibition is for dealerships advertising them over the Net. By word of mouth or direct email he can still do it! I'll be emailing him soon. There may yet be hope !
