    HI all!

Based on your advice and recommendations, I bought a Prius 3 back in September 2011 and have been very happy with it. I didn't buy the extended warranty back then because I knew that I could always get a better deal later - and cheaper.

So, here I am. I've had zero problems with this car and have had it for a little over 2 years and reached 34K+ miles on it. I drive it a lot, and consequently have saved tons of $ from my previous daily driver- an Isuzu Rode getting 16MPG :)

I'm a bit confused- what does the extended cover that my other power train warranty doesn't?

Is it worth it? I am quite car savvy (have rebuilt motors, etc., drag racing), but am very happy to have a new car that I don't have to pop the hood, and would prefer to have some peace of mind :)

And if I get one for another 35K, can I get another one after that?

    thanks!!

    John

Don't know if Gen III is different then Gen II. Here's the story. 2009 bought new from dealer. Didn't buy an extended TFS warranty. At 33,500 miles but 1 year out from 36 months so new warranty was gone, MDF screen goes out. (like the 2004/05s ) new part cost is circa $5000 plus labor to install. Refurbished unit is $1200 plus labor at my dealer, $1400. So for the price of TFS extended warranty we could have had a new unit. It's a gamble. But all it takes is one big electronic part not part of the power train or the hybrid system and one needs the proverbial paddle to get home.
Buying tomorrow for my sister a new 2013 PRius. Will we buy an TFS extended warranty - yup - but probably when the new warranty gets close to its 36mon/36k. As I live in Albuquerque, I won't b e buying it from my local dealers. They only sell LandCar...

:)Always good to hear positive replies. MOST, responses regarding extended warranties are negative. Best scenario is you're paying a fixed amount up front for a unknown dollar amount of potential expenditures . I wouldn't be disappointed one bit if I had a extended warranty and didn't use it once. Who wants the hassle of numerous repairs, dealer visits, loss of vehicle use, frustration, just so you could brag about what a extended warranty saved you in actual covered repair costs?

Since I'm new to hybrids, I purchased an 8 year 100k warranty for our 2012 Camry hybrid. I paid 1149, which is better than the 2k the dealership was pushing. I went through Midwest toyota superstore. Great to work with. Info in the URL below, post 3. I'll purchase another from Jerry on my prius when the time comes.

    A fellow Albuquerquean, cool!

I know we have other power train warranties, etc., with our Prius--

Can someone break it down simply for me what my other warranties cover? It's all quite confusing!

    thank you!

I paid 1149 for an 8 year 100k warranty on my Camry Hybrid, same price for the Prius. It all depends on how many miles you drive, how long you might own it etc.

Here is a quote from a few days ago I received on my 2012 Prius for an extended warranty (go under the assumption that these are subject to change):

    5 YEAR 60,000 MILES $449.00
    5 YEAR 80,000 MILES $499.00,
    5 YEAR 100,000 MILES $679.00
    5 YEAR 125,000 MILES $874.00

    6 YEAR 75,000 MILES $549.00,
    6 YEAR 100,000 MILES $834.00,
    6 YEARS 125,000 MILES $1,129.00

    7 YEARS 75,000 MILES $654.00,
    7 YEAR 100,000 MILES $999.00
    7 YEARS 125,000 MILES $1,294.00

    8 YEARS 75,000 MILES $769.00
    8 YEARS 100,000 MILES $1,149.00
    8 YEARS 125,000 MILES $1,589.00

Check out post #5 above and follow the link. Midwest Toyota Superstore is the place to get one.

As for your regular car warranty, most everything is covered except for your normal wear and tear items up to 3 yrs/36k.

No problem. Remember that the extended warranty begins from the in service date.
